Much like many WB shows, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" was a starting point (or stepping stone) for some of today's biggest stars. Back in the day, these budding actors were just blips on our radar. Now, they're in some of the biggest TV shows and movies.

Here are 12 actors and actresses you (probably) forgot guest starred on Joss Whedon's hit show. »

HBO Cancels Duplass Brothers Comedy 'Togetherness'

25 March 2016 12:00 PM, PDT

HBO is not feeling that "Togetherness." The network has decided to consciously uncouple with the comedy created by Jay and Mark Duplass and Steve Zissis, and the season 2 finale on April 10 will serve as the series finale.

"Although we have decided not to proceed with another season of 'Togetherness,' we look forward to continuing our strong creative collaboration with the talented Jay and Mark Duplass," HBO said in a statement.

Mark Duplass and Zissis also starred in the dramedy, along with Melanie Lynskey and Amanda Peet. Mark Duplass reacted to the cancellation on Twitter:

The show was a critical hit, earning excellent reviews, but never scored big ratings. Episodes averaged around 330,000 viewers on live and same-day viewings. That puts it far below fellow HBO comedies like "Silicon Valley," which averages around 1.8 million viewers.

Kim Dickens Teases 'High Seas' Season 2 of 'Fear the Walking Dead'

25 March 2016 11:00 AM, PDT

With the second season of the blockbuster hit -- boasting the top-rated cable series premiere of all time -- prequel/spinoff series "Fear the Walking Dead" about to return on April 10, and a special edition home video release of the first season hitting stores this week, star Kim Dickens has every reason to be feeling pretty fearless.

But the actress -- whose impressive TV resume includes stints on modern classics including "Lost," "Deadwood," "Friday Night Lights," "Sons of Anarchy" and "House of Cards," as well as films like "Gone Girl" and "The Blind Side" -- admits there were a few phobias for her to shake as the show got off the ground, including getting over some very intense audition scenes and experiencing some disturbing apocalyptic nightmares early in production.

But, like her character Madison, Dickens is moving forward in one piece, reflecting on her first season experiences and even offering »

Joe Manganiello Calls 'Pee-wee's Big Holiday' a 'Once in a Lifetime Project'

25 March 2016 10:00 AM, PDT

Pee-wee Herman never did things small, so is it any wonder that his new best friend came in Size Joe Manganiello?

In "Pee-wee's Big Holiday," the "True Blood" and "Magic Mike" star plays a version of himself via the skewed funhouse-mirror world Pee-wee inhabits. After a chance encounter where he finds himself bonding with his new friend, Manganiello invites the otherwise sheltered Pee-Wee to his birthday party on the opposite coast, launching the epic cross-country journey that fills up the Netflix original film.

Manganiello joined Moviefone to reveal the secret behind his involvement with the movie, which wasn't just a clever Hollywood cameo. Not only has the actor been a super-fan of Pee-wee since his youth, the character's creator/alter ego Paul Reubens was also a personal friend -- close enough to have attended the star's recent wedding to Sofia Vergara.

Get a First Look at Negan in 'The Walking Dead' Season Finale Promo

25 March 2016 9:40 AM, PDT

There's still one more episode of "The Walking Dead" left before the season six finale, but we already have our first glimpse at the installment thanks to a new promo, which also offers fans their first look at notorious villain Negan.

Of course, it's a fleeting one, and we only see his back, but we do hear his voice, and there's also a close-up of his trusty barb wire-covered baseball bat, Lucille.

"Hi," actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan says in voiceover, as Negan's hulking, leather jacket-clad frame looms in front of the camera, and he clutches Lucille menacingly. "I'm Negan."

Those words should send shivers down the spine of faithful "Walking Dead" comic fans, who already know all about the foul-mouthed villain (and just what he will do with Lucille, and how that will affect a key member of Rick's crew). For the uninitiated, it's still an imposing introduction -- from »

'Batman v Superman' Soars to $27.7 Million in Thursday Previews

25 March 2016 8:55 AM, PDT

In the battle of box office heavyweights, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" came out swinging, posting an impressive $27.7 million in Thursday box office receipts.

That total makes "BvS" the seventh-biggest Thursday night earner of all time, narrowly besting comic rival Marvel's "Avengers: Age of Ultron," which pulled in $27.6 million in Thursday preview numbers last year. ("Star Wars: The Force Awakens" still holds firm to the all-time Thursday night record, though, pulling in $57 million on that night last December.)

In terms of more obscure box office goals, "Dawn of Justice" is now the reigning champ of Easter Weekend preview screenings, bumping off previous title-holder "Furious 7," which made $15.8 million in 2015. That flick went on to have a lucrative $147.1 million opening weekend, making "Dawn of Justice's" prospects for a big final total come Easter Sunday evening even better.

Right now, prognosticators are predicting an opening weekend sum of around $160 million for "BvS, »

Paul McCartney Joins 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales'

25 March 2016 7:30 AM, PDT

Here's an odd bit of casting news: According to a new report, Paul McCartney has joined "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" in a secretive role.

Deadline has the scoop that the former Beatle will shoot a special scene for the fifth entry in the lucrative "Pirates" franchise, though the details of his part are being kept under wraps. While principal photography for "Dead Men Tell No Tales" has already wrapped, Deadline reports that McCartney's mysterious role will be filmed "not [as] a re-shoot, but rather an extra scene," which is being described as "an extra big set-piece." The flick isn't due in theaters for over a year, so filmmakers have plenty of time to edit this new part into the rest of the finished footage, according to the trade.

We're not sure what could possibly have been written for Sir Paul that would encourage him to take on a high-profile acting role, »

Sophie Turner Doesn't Want Sansa to Survive 'Game of Thrones'

25 March 2016 7:15 AM, PDT

"Game of Thrones" fans still have another month to go before the show returns for its sixth season, and while the epic first trailer has gotten viewers excited about the new episodes, the show's cast is pretty pumped, too. Emilia Clarke (a.k.a. Daenerys Targaryen) has already promised that season six will be the biggest spectacle in television history, and now, Sophie Turner has also teased some big things ahead -- and has made a rather interesting demand for the fate of her character, Sansa Stark.

In an interview with the WSJ Cafe, Turner said that season six would set itself apart from previous seasons because before, characters were spreading out, and now, "everything is kind of coming together, and storylines are intertwining, and people are forming alliances with other characters, and everyone's kind of coming towards the same goal."

For Sansa -- who, yes, did survive that jump »

15 Sequels That Took Effing Forever to Get Made

25 March 2016 6:00 AM, PDT

Waiting a decade -- or more -- to make a sequel isn't exactly a widely practiced business model in Hollywood. Lately, the longest you have to wait is two or three years before the next installment in whatever potential or established franchise hits theaters.

In the last few of years, however, waiting a decade (or more) for a follow-up isn't such a crazy proposition. (Um, hello, "Mad Max: Fury Road.")

To celebrate the release of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2", one of Hollywood's longest-gestating sequels, we present the widest gaps between two movies of the same franchise, along with whether or not they were worth the wait. (Spoiler alert: A lot of them are not.) »

Garry Shandling, 'Larry Sanders Show' Star, Dies at 66

24 March 2016 2:04 PM, PDT

Garry Shandling, the influential stand-up comedian and star of "The Larry Sanders Show," has died. He was 66.

TMZ was the first to report the news on Thursday afternoon, writing that Shandling was rushed to a Los Angeles area hospital earlier that day, where he later died. The cause was an apparent massive heart attack, according to the site, though Shandling's representatives have yet to confirm that report.

Shandling broke new comedy ground with his 1980s series "It's Garry Shandling's Show," which frequently broke the fourth wall and inspired the irreverent style of other, later series, including "Seinfeld" and "Curb Your Enthusiasm." He followed that up with another influential comedy, "The Larry Sanders Show," which spoofed the behind-the-scenes workings of a late-night talk show, and earned him much critical acclaim, including multiple Emmy nominations for acting, and one win for writing.

Paul Reubens on Bringing Back 'Pee-wee' and How the Iconic Character Came to Be

24 March 2016 2:00 PM, PDT

His name may sound diminutive, but everything about Pee-wee Herman is big, big, big.

Beginning with 1985's "Pee-wee's Big Adventure," the debut film for the one-of-a-kind character first created on stage in the early '80s by actor/writer/comedian Paul Reubens, there's always been something outrageously outsized about the antics of the gray-suited, red-bowtied man-child.

And now he's as big as ever, returning to the spotlight for the first time in 25 years since his last major appearance onscreen for a new Netflix film "Pee-wee's Big Holiday," produced by comedy impresario Judd Apatow. Taking a step out of character, Reubens joined Moviefone to discuss why Pee-Wee's return is indeed something to celebrate.

Moviefone: Why was now the right time to bring back Pee-Wee?

Paul Reubens: Well, really, the time to bring back Pee-wee was 10 years ago, when I originally started doing it, but it didn't work out that way. »

'American Idol' Gets 3-Night Series Finale, Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood to Perform

24 March 2016 1:40 PM, PDT

"American Idol" is going out with a three-night spectacular when it wraps its 15th -- and last -- season next month, and the show will welcome back its two most famous former contestants to mark the milestone.

Both Kelly Clarkson, the inaugural "Idol" champ, and Carrie Underwood, who claimed the season four crown, will return to the show on April 7, where each will perform on the final night of "Idol"'s three farewell episodes. The appearance will mark the second time Clarkson has performed this season, after she sang an emotional rendition of her single"Piece by Piece" on the show back in February.

In addition to those two nostalgia-inducing guests, "Idol" is pulling out all the stops for its final bow with what's it's dubbed Grand Finale Week, beginning on April 5 with a 90-minute retrospective called "American Idol: American Dream." The show will feature host Ryan Seacrest along with »

Howard was an Emmy and Tony winner who was highly regarded by those in the entertainment community, winning election to become president of the national chapter of the Screen Actors Guild in 2009. 'Oitnb' Cast Take on 'Peeno Noir' in Hilarious 'Kimmy Schmidt' Parody

24 March 2016 11:30 AM, PDT

"Orange Is the New Black" and "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" aren't just two of our favorite shows on Netflix -- they're two of our favorite shows, period. So we love seeing the series show each other some love, especially when it's in the form of a hilarious parody of an already hilarious bit.

The "Oitnb" cast took on the challenge of making their own version of now-iconic "Kimmy" tune "Peeno Noir," and the results are pretty spectacular. In "Honey Jar," a reference to Poussey's homemade prison hooch, almost the entire Litchfield gang gets in on the fun, singing along "Oitnb"-specific references to the "Peeno" melody. (Special shout-out to Samira Wiley (Poussey) and Adrienne C. Moore (Cindy), who do their best Titus Andromedon warbles throughout the clip.)

Instead of "mid-size car," Alex says "steal a car," and Suzanne swaps out "find out who your true friends are" for "find out who your bunkmates are. »

Chloe Grace Moretz Defends Rey, Slams 'Squads,' Updates on 'The Little Mermaid'

24 March 2016 9:29 AM, PDT

Chloe Grace Moretz gives the best interviews. She's smart, opinionated, and not afraid to say things that may be controversial, while also admitting she Does care what you think. She wants be be "America's Sweetheart," as she told Complex magazine, but the "Kick-Ass" star is always going to be the kind of sweetheart who takes a stand.

Moretz, 19, opened up on a lot of subjects in her Complex interview, including the topic of her live-action "Little Mermaid" movie. Here's that section of the talk, where she promises to flip the "regressive" story on its head:

"...So don't worry that the live-action Little Mermaid will reinforce the misogyny of the original, in which a girl sacrifices her essence for the mere shot at gaining a man's favor. Moretz is on it. 'We want to make this good for girls," she says. 'We can't make this regressive tale in a modern world. »

It's Everyone vs. Ravenna in This Exclusive 'The Huntsman: Winter's War' Clip

24 March 2016 9:00 AM, PDT

The "war" of "The Huntsman: Winter's War" is clear in this action-packed exclusive clip from the film, which comes out April 22. There's only one line in the 45-second scene, from Emily Blunt's Freya, who is in full battle mode against her own sister, Queen Ravenna, played by Charlize Theron. You remember her, right? "Winter's War" hits theaters four years after "Snow White and the Huntsman," but it tells the story that came before that Kristen Stewart movie, bringing back Theron's Ravenna and also the Huntsman himself, played by Chris Hemsworth.

The Huntsman is featured in this clip, along with Jessica Chastain, who plays Sara, a fellow warrior who seems like a cross between Katniss Everdeen of "The Hunger Games" and Tauriel from "The Hobbit." As you can see in the video, which features a cool personal intro from Chastain and Hemsworth, Ravenna is a tough adversary to take down, »

Man Arrested for Failing to Return 'Freddy Got Fingered' in 2002, Tom Green Responds

24 March 2016 8:46 AM, PDT

Tom Green should pay anyone who sat through "Freddy Got Fingered," never mind someone arrested for keeping it for 14 years.

James Meyers, 37, of Concord, North Carolina apparently rented the movie on VHS in 2002 and never returned it. It's now 2016, and he was just arrested and charged with failure to return rental property, after cops pulled him over for a busted tail-light. Let no one say the local police are not thorough!

According to Wscotv news, the misdemeanor comes with a fine of up to $200. Meyers now has to go to court on April 27 to answer the charge, even though the rental store itself closed down.

The whole story is absurd, but it's also a lot funnier than "Freddy Got Fingered." Meyers told the news station that he was driving his daughter to school when a Concord Pd officer pulled him over for the busted tail-light. Then things got weird. The »
