About the Festival

Now in its fifth year, The ShortList Film Festival is thrilled to once again bring the very best short films from around the world to your computer or mobile device. The festival will stream online in August 2016. More information on the 2016 festival coming shortly.

The ShortList Film Festival is not like most film festivals. We select 12 of the best award-winning short films that have premiered at a major festival in the past year, making this the most highly competitive film festival of its kind!

In 2015, The ShortList announced the addition of a new category for an original film. The Creators League prize launches in partnership with the Creators League, a content initiative led by Pepsi.  The Creators League Prize is seeking ONE new short up to five minutes in length to follow in the footsteps of Spike Lee, Diego Luna, Idris Elba, Nabil Elderkin and other Creators League collaborators. All ShortList films streamed from August 4-18 on this site and TheWrap.com.

They were also highlighted daily in our First Take Newsletter which goes out daily to tens of thousands of subscribers.

Finalists had the opportunity to promote their film to fans and friends who can then vote online.

The film with the most votes will win our Audience Award.  In addition, our jury of esteemed industry experts separately judge the shorts and select one Jury Prize winner. Submissions for the ShortList closed on June 5, 2015. 5 Winners were presented at our live event in Los Angeles, California.

Prizes in 2015 include the Audience Prize sponsored by YouTube offering a $10,000 budget to make a short film for their new experimental channel Field Day, awarded by the most votes tallied online. EPIX will once again sponsor the $5,000 award for the Industry Prize, awarded by a distinguished panel of experts in independent film. The Creators League Award will include a $5,000 cash prize and an artist-in-residence status with a $15,000 living stipend, plus an invitation to be the next Artist in Residence at Creator League's New York Studio. All finalists in the Award-Winning category screened on EPIX in August 2015.
