CBI Construction Council

Since its creation in 2008, the CBI’s construction council has gained a reputation for shaping the agenda through its influence with government and key stakeholders throughout the industry.

The council works to:

  • Promote the importance and role of the construction sector as an economic engine because of its vast value chain, job-creation capacity, strong regional presence and high economic multiplier
  • Help government create an environment where the sector can thrive in the UK

In developing this work in greater detail, the council focuses on a number of key issues impacting on construction. These include:

  • Business and government collaboration to increase private sector investment in infrastructure
  • Long-term certainty through an industrial strategy for construction to help firms export and plan investment
  • Accelerating progress and delivery on major public and private schemes, including procurement reform
  • Supporting a vibrant housing market
  • Embedding sustainability
  • Membership

The council’s membership is formed of CEO level representatives from right across the sector:

  • Contractors
  • House builders
  • Engineers
  • Developers
  • Manufacturers
  • Aggregates
  • Consultants
  • Professional services
