Watch Every Moment 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Ripped Off 'A New Hope'

Star Wars: The Force Awakens' critical and commercial success at the box office is almost unparalleled. The long-awaited sequel has pulled in a domestic record of $933.6 million and $2.06 billion worldwide, while raking in an impressive 92% "Fresh" rating with the nation's critics on Rotten Tomatoes. However, even many fans who thoroughly enjoy the movie have criticized one aspect, that it borrows too much from the 1977 classic that started it all, Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. Vimeo user Zachary Antell took it upon himself to put together a side-by-side video showing just how similar scenes from both movies really are.

The video breaks down a number of scenes from the original theatrical version of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, a.k.a. the "De-Specialized Edition," and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Some of these scenes that are uncannily similar are http://movieweb.com/tony-dyson-dead-rip-star-wars-r2d »

All the Cutest Moments From This Year's White House Easter Egg Roll!

15 hours ago | Popsugar.com | See recent Popsugar news »

The White House's annual Easter Egg Roll was on Monday, and the picture-perfect day appeared to go off without a hitch (or a hop). Michelle and Barack Obama had a blast at the event, which hosted some 35,000 guests and is in its 138th year. Michelle perfectly captured the theme of "Let's Celebrate!" as she was photographed smiling and laughing throughout the day. In addition to speaking to the large crowd on their balcony with the Easter bunny, Michelle and Barack read a few stories to the kids, helped them search for Easter eggs, participated in a few races, and looked on as Idina Menzel performed. There was also a special appearance from a few Star Wars Stormtroopers, who Barack made sure to fist bump. The couple's two daughters, Sasha and Malia, who just returned home from a historic trip to Latin America with their parents, were also there to join in on the fun. »

Interviews: Young Cast Emphasizes That ‘Everybody Wants Some!!’

16 hours ago | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – There are two exclamation points behind the new Richard Linklater (“Boyhood”) film, “Everybody Wants Some!!,” and that could also express the exclamation energy of the cast. Will Brittain, Tyler Hoechlin and Blake Jenner portray college students before the new fall semester in 1980.

“Everybody Wants Some!!” is a quasi-sequel to Linklater’s popular “Dazed and Confused” film of 1993. It possesses the same nostalgia, the same styles/attitudes, and the same spirit as “DandC,” and it is set four years after the events of that film – except now it’s a Texas college instead of a Texas high school. For persons who grew up in that era, it will be a warm look back, and for everyone else it will evoke laughs on how we all used to live, and what we used to wear while we were living without Facebook.

Harrison Ford to Auction Off Han Solo's Star Wars Jacket in Honor of Daughter with Epilepsy

Harrison Ford is willing to give the shirt off his back for a good cause. Or, maybe a jacket. The actor is auctioning off the rugged jacket he wore as Han Solo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens to benefit epilepsy research. The actor's daughter Georgia has been living with the disease, and Ford has been an outspoken proponent for the cause. The actor's first scene in The Force Awakens - his first appearance in any Star Wars film in more than 30 years - features him wearing the signature piece of clothing, and the scene immediately sent fans into a frenzy at screenings. »

‘Batman v Superman’ Versus the Puny Critics? Puh-leeze

18 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Reactions to the massive box office haul for “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” included a rather lazy old canard – namely, the notion that the Dark Knight and Man of Steel had overcome the slings and arrows of puny critics in the movie’s march toward stratospheric profits.

While that might look true on its face, given the largely negative reviews and the better-than-anticipated opening (revised to $166 million in the U.S.), it ignores the relationship between blockbuster “tentpole” releases and reviewers, while mischaracterizing the role that critics play in terms of steering people away from, or toward, certain kinds of movies.

Simply put, it’s hard to imagine anyone in the opening-weekend audience for this DC Comics adaptation, “Star Wars” or any one of Marvel’s major releases being dissuaded from going to such a film based on reviews. The whole point is to see and experience the project »

Power and Resistance: Andrzej Żuławski’s "On the Silver Globe"

“There is in every one of us, even those who seem to be most moderate, a type of desire that is terrible, wild, and lawless.”—The Republic, Book IX 572bWhat’s the best way to describe the mania of an Andrzej Żuławski film? William Grimes, eulogizing Żuławski for The New York Times chose “emotionally savage.” J. Hoberman used “hyperkinetic,” “frenzied,” and “‘awful’ in its root sense of inspiring dread. Daniel Bird, writing about the most recent Lincoln Center screenings in New York, chose “deeply disturbing.” These descriptors make perfect sense after experiencing a Żuławski film, but I’ve never been able to sell his films to a newcomer this way. How could I? They’re much too primal for adjectives in our delicate English language, crafted to communicate Enlightenment-era ideas in a pleasing series of vibrations. The intensity of this director’s films could only be described in some sort of ancient Lovecraftian squelching, »

10 Times Wrestling Was More Hardcore Than “Real” Sports

It’s a mystery as to why grown adults assume other grown people in 2016 could be walking around inhaling oxygen, exhaling carbon dioxide and still not know that wrestling is fake/scripted/a work.

Fan or critic, everyone knows wrestling has pre-determined outcomes and the moves are not performed at full impact. But, intelligent pro wrestling fans will point out pro wrestling is scripted and choreographed not just to pull one over on people, but to guarantee the most entertainment.

Star Wars, The Simpsons and Ziggy Stardust are also fake, but that doesn’t stop people from getting caught up in their stories or loving them for being awesome. The truth is a tremendous amount of real athletic skill and drive is required of anyone who wants to be a pro wrestler.

When someone takes a closer look at the industry they see it is full of real »

Watch All Of The Star Wars: A New Hope Callbacks Contained In The Force Awakens

There's no denying that there are deliberate references to 1977's Star Wars in 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens. In fact, a lot of them are pretty easy to spot, and act as fitting tributes to the sci-fi classic that started it all. That said, watching them all back to back does paint an interesting picture . a picture you can see in the following supercut. The video, entitled "A New Awakening . Star Wars Episode IV and VII Shot Comparison," was shared by Uproxx, and was created by Vimeo user Zachary Antell. Much like many of the Star Wars fans out in the audience when Star Wars: The Force Awakens opened, Antell had a sneaking suspicion that he'd seen some of the actions shown in the film before. Which leads to the carefully edited results you see above, highlighting one of the main criticisms that fans had about Star Wars: »
