Macphun offers Aurora HDR Pro 3-month payment plan

Macphun has announced a new 3-month payment plan for Aurora HDR Pro, the image editing application for Mac OS X it launched in November. Rather than requiring the full $99 USD price at the time of purchase, the payment plan allows users to pay $33 per month for three months, while still gaining immediate access to the software license.

According to Macphun, Aurora HDR has been downloaded more than 150,000 times since its launch. The payment plan doesn’t involve a subscription and does not charge interest. The company’s 'bonus of the month' gift to customers is also provided to users who opt for the 3-month installment.

The payment plan is now available through the Aurora HDR website.

Since Adobe made it possible to processes the 32bit HDR file in ACR, other HDR apps became redundant — assuming you have a Photoshop CC subscription, which I guess is not everyone. The power of being able to use ACR's local adjustment tools on all that data allows you to squeeze every last bit of detail from your merged files, and do so without the OTT HDR look that everyone is so over nowadays. On the downside, half a dozen local adjustments can bring your system to it's knees, and it can be tricky down sampling to a usable 16 and 8bit image while keeping the look you achieved with ACR. But a total game changer, all the same.

Not a bad piece of software for the price, and with instalments makes it easier for people who don't have much money. Between this and Nik FX your kinda covered for all scenarios, just need to choose wisely on which you like, Both give good results some better than others....

Still this app is too expensive. Maybe I say maybe $49.99 can twist my arm ... But then, NikSoftware HDR or HDR Expose-3 may do the same or even better job.

In my opinion, oversaturated/overdone HDR images are a cover-up for lousy pursued photography opportunity in first place.

The only reason to offer this option is that sales are not meeting expectations and they think making 3 payments will convince more folks to buy. In the end you are not getting any benefit as $33 x 3=$99 either way.

This is not deserving to be on DPR title page.

Except it is about yet another software company which believes photographers are unable to do addition, to add up several monthly payments into the overall payment for five years (which is 99$ here or 600$ for LR CC).

Software that specializes in HDR for $300? Not phun at all. Buy Lightroom for half the price. It does HDR. Just push the contrast, highlights to the left, shadows and blacks to the right. Turn up the saturation and clarity. voila

I think you misread: it's 99$. Three payments of 33$ do not make 300$.

Sounds like not enough people are buying it> It may be good, but how do they expect to make money if it is only available in a Mac version?

Well they've already sold 150,000 copies or about $15,000,000 dollars worth so I'd say they're doing alright just catering to the Mac market.

Well, I use, and it is said to be the best, Photomatix. Then you can use the freeware raw development software RawTherapee which is really great and includes tone mapping function as well. I know that most of my hdr pics a wee bit over the top and colorful but anyway. Here is the link for what I am getting with photomatix -

Aurora HDR is miles more superior than Photomatix. Photomatix always made everything look like artificial HDR. Auroroa has so many preset filters, each contained in separate categories, and all fully adjustable with a 0-100% opacity, or pure manual adjustments with dozens of tools. The filters are also stackable, and each adjustable before you save. The Realistic HDR filters are exactly what they say. Massive range without the dreamlike quality. I am not a salesman for this, but I use it on everything I edit, and then often finish it off in other Macphun programs like Tonality or Intensify. Now photoshop is used primarily for cropping.

If so it would be a great tool to maximize the dynamic range of my APS-C sensor to full frame level
I am thinkng I don't need full frame for dynamic range in landscape if I can maximize the dynamic range in 1 shot RAW

I could somehow understand it if it was a 990$ app...
what's next? buying your food in instalments?
and with this culture people are wondering why anyone gets into debts...
Buy now - pay later... buy now pay on credit... get a credit,.,,. get another credit... easy instalments... we triple the mortgage on your house so you can afford the latest smartphone...

The first two comments are ranting on about subscriptions. Why?

This is NOT A SUBSCRIPTION people!

It's an INSTALLMENT PLAN. Three payments of $33 instead of one payment of $99. As far as I can tell you are buying a perpetual license.

Come on people, read before reacting. I have seen this strange pattern of comments, rants, and complaints on threads about other products that are NOT SUBSCRIPTION, yet everybody with a fanatical opposition to subscriptions wants to come in and let out all their feelings just because they're offering a more flexible way to pay. Payment options are all-American! This is the same kind of multi-payment plan that helped make houses and cars affordable to all. Except this is better, because as far as I see there is NO INTEREST either.

Please, read for comprehension...

Subscription based software will never be overly popular. Ppl already hate adobe for doing it, this is not a very good strategy from the other software producers. Only reason adobe is getting some slack (by some people) is because it had been used by many in the past already (photoshop and their other programs), and because they're offering more than 1 software with their cloud.

No. No. No. I want to buy a program-pay for it once-and use it on as many computer partitions I want for as long as I want. Shareware or old software for me. The world is intoxicated with this app, subscription model.
