StreamFix: Must-watch 'Daily Show' correspondent movies on Netflix now

30 March 2015 5:18 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Thanks to the news of Trevor Noah taking over Jon Stewart's "Daily Show" desk, we remembered something: Wow, "Daily Show" alums have basically taken over the world. If they're not landing primetime sitcom gigs, they're scoring Oscar nominations and populating romcoms. To celebrate Noah's new post, let's take a look at five Netflix picks starring the friends, colleagues, and cronies of Jon Stewart. Watch 'em now.  "Trevor Noah: African American" If you haven't been introduced to your new "Daily Show" host's brand of observational humor yet, check out his comedy special where he discusses his home country of South Africa and why racial relations there, even during the age of apartheid, are/were less complicated than in the U.S. His bit about Oprah Winfrey's leadership academy is particularly inspired. And a little unsettling! "Bruce Almighty" Oscar nominee Steve Carell wasn't always scarring you with his fake "Foxcatcher" nose and deathly "Foxcatcher" stare. »

Tribeca Film Festival Adds ‘Clue,’ ‘Lady and the Tramp,’ ‘Back to the Future’

26 March 2015 1:34 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

The 2015 Tribeca Film Festival has added outdoor screenings of “Clue” and “Lady and the Tramp” to this year’s lineup, as part of a slate of community activities that also includes the fest’s annual street fair and sports day.

The 30th anniversary screening of cult comedy “Clue” (April 16) and the 60th anniversary screening of Disney animated film “Lady and the Tramp” (April 17) are part of the festival’s free-of-charge Tribeca Drive-In series, which also will include the premiere of “A Faster Horse” (April 18), a documentary about the Ford Mustang from “Jiro Dreams of Sushi” director David Gelb.

The family screening of “Back to the Future” (April 25) is set for the same day as the annual street fair, and takes place in the same downtown Manhattan neighborhood. The fair includes a range of activities including a backlot experience, a game arcade and performances from the casts of Broadway shows and the Rockettes. »

Community Recap: Re-Repiloting

17 March 2015 12:57 PM, PDT | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

With Community down three cast members, the theme song’s closing words (“one by one they all just fade away”) have never been more appropriate. Nonetheless, the start of Season 6 – its first on the Yahoo Screen streaming service – is a promising one.

The remainder of the Greendale 7 quickly fill their current vacancies with two distinct personalities — one of whom looks a lot like the school’s former head of It, and the other looking a heck of a lot like that guy from The Cape.

Flames on the Side of My Face: A Tribute to the Women of 'Clue'

7 March 2015 2:09 AM, PST | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

What is it about "Clue"? Thirty years after the kooky non-hit murder mystery left theaters (along with its three original endings), it's become as much of a cult phenomenon as "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," Tim Curry's other mansion romp with a delirious lineup of characters. Don't believe me? Until Paramount stepped in to protest, La's NuArt Theatre conducted "shadow cast" screenings of "Clue" featuring costumed cast imitators who mimed the movie in front of the projection. That's a next-level tribute. Based on the Parker Brothers board game, "Clue" is a whodunit in a very traditional sense. It is literally a dark and stormy night, there is literally a butler who might've done it, and there are Agatha Christie-type explanations for the homicides at the end of the movie. So why is it beloved? That answer, unlike the culprit of the movie's seven murders, reveals itself quickly: "Clue »

StreamFix: 5 Essential Movie Parodies on Netflix Now

3 March 2015 6:40 PM, PST | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

While romcoms and black comedies may have more sophisticated plots, satires are the films that guarantee us the most laughs. Sometimes you want permission to laugh at movies rather than with them, and satires remind you that familiar movie conventions are strange and sometimes hilarious.  We just noticed that one of our all-time favorite Mel Brooks movies has hit Netflix, so without further ado, let's celebrate this nutty genre. "Airplane!": Insanity at 20,000 Feet The bawdy sight gags and astounding one-liners of "Airplane!" run together in a nonstop medley, but I'd like to point out another highpoint of this disaster satire: You can't pick a single Mvp in the ensemble. Every actor is perfectly cast and perfectly effing weird. Robert Hays is stone-eyed and slyly ridiculous. Julie Hagerty is a wide-eyed cuckoo. Robert Stack, Lloyd Bridges, Peter Graves, Leslie Nielsen, Stephen StuckerBarbara Billingsley, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and even Maureen McGovern (as the singing nun, »

Community season 6 to air in March, trailer released

14 January 2015 10:53 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

After losing its home on NBC last year, it was feared by many that cult comedy show Community was dead. But after being saved by Yahoo, the show’s sixth season is all set to air this March.

To announce the screening dates, Yahoo have gathered all of Greendale’s finest for a teaser trailer, which you can view below. In typical Community fashion, it plays with television tropes and pokes fun at the shows move to Yahoo.

With Dan Harmon back after returning for season five, the show reunites series regulars Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Jim Rash and Ken Jeong, as well as some new blood including Paget Brewster (Friends), Martin Mull (Dads) and Lesley Ann Warren (Clue). Former cast regular Yvette Nicole Brown departed the show before the new season began filming, as did Danny Glover, Jonathan Banks and Chevy Chase during season five. »
