‘The Bachelor’ Recap: The 7 Most Important Takeaways From ‘The Women Tell All’

2 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

After weeks of sifting, Season 20’s Bachelor, Ben Higgins, has narrowed down the playing field to two women: Lauren and JoJo. Since we have to wait until next week to find out who wins Ben’s heart (oh, the suspense!), this week we are stuck in a room with the rejects for two hours.

Season after season, the “Women Tell All” episode is more or less a glorified clip show (it probably deserves a format revamp). But amid the mundanity, there were several moments worth talking about.

1. Sheila The Chicken Acts Out

Undeniably, one of the best parts of each “Bachelor” season happens before the first episode, when the contestants are revealed — along with their always surprising, very rarely legitimate occupations. At the beginning of this episode, it was clear that most of the ladies were right where we left them: the twins are still Twins, Rachel is still Unemployed, »

'Better Call Saul' Co-Star Michael Mando: Nacho is a "Peasant Who Wants To Be King"

3 hours ago | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

[Warning: This interview contains spoilers for Monday's episode of Better Call Saul, "Gloves Off."] Monday's Better Call Saul was a treat for Breaking Bad fans, culminating in a showdown between Mike (Jonathan Banks) and Tuco (Raymond Cruz), a head-to-head brought about by Nacho's (Michael Mando) desire to wipe out his partner in criminal enterprise. Mike, however, preferred to get Tuco sent away to prison rather than assassinating him. Since Tuco's a key part of Breaking Bad and Nacho is only mentioned once in dialogue (by his given name, "Ignacio"), that decision may end up being important.  After

Review: Mike takes the 'Better Call Saul' spotlight in 'Gloves Off'

3 hours ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

A review of tonight's Better Call Saul coming up just as soon as I'm here to get my brother's ink blotter... "That all ya got?" -Mike I occasionally hear from readers who wish Better Call Saul focused more on its other Breaking Bad alum, and on the higher-stake drug world of Albuquerque pre-Walt. As one put it in a recent email, "Why are the scenes with Mike so much punchier and emotionally involving than those with Jimmy?" I strongly agree with the premise of that question, and think Saul has only gotten better as the show has embraced the Jimmy McGill of it all and slowed down its journey towards Breaking Bad-dom. The tragedy of Mike is perhaps greater because of its permanence, and because the sins he commits along the way are worse than what Saul does, but becoming Gene from Cinabbon is presented as a fate almost worse than death, »

‘The Royale’ Theater Review: Jack Johnson Lives to Fight Again Despite Doubts

Marco Ramirez’s “The Royale” is the latest in a recent trend of 90-minute no-intermission plays that suggest what Edith Wharton wrote a century ago in “The Age of Innocence” about life in New York City in the 19th century: “Americans want to get away from amusement even more quickly than they want to get to it.” Stephen Karam’s “The Humans,” which recently opened on Broadway, uses the compact formula to powerful effect, and does so by creating six full-bodied characters in an hour and a half. Last week, Lucas Knath’s “Red Speedo” opened at the New York Theatre Workshop. »

Have we reached peak tentpole, and what happens after the collapse?

5 hours ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Is it possible to enjoy movies being released as part of the various studio-controlled mega-franchises and still be profoundly concerned about where we are as a film culture right now? If so, I think that's a good description of where I am at the moment. The news broke over the weekend that Venom is back in development at Sony, with Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach in charge of this title. That's an important detail. You'll notice that the main Spider-Man film, set to be directed by Jon Watts, is being produced by Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige. You could look at the two teams as the difference between the major and the minor leagues, with Pascal and Feige in the primary spot. They're the ones handling the main part of the franchise. Arad and Tolmach are the b-team, and the films they're in charge of will be smaller scale, lower-budget, »

The tragic saga of Mr. Freeze (Nathan Darrow) seemed to come to an abrupt end on tonight’s “Gotham,” with the scientist appearing to end his own life after losing his wife — but unbeknownst to Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and the Gcpd, the chilly villain survived his apparent demise, waking up with a frosty makeover in Hugo Strange’s (Bd Wong) underground facility, Indian Hill, with an icy chip on his shoulder.

While Jim remains unaware of the forces that are building against him under the city — and right under his nose, if we count Edward Nygma’s (Cory Michael Smith) recent behavior — he has more immediate issues, namely the strain on his relationship with Lee Thompkins (Morena Baccarin) and the blackmail material that Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) has on him, »
