For the Jewish Holiday of Purim, on which it is customary to wear costumes and hold festivities - here is a peek into the flying art the IAF used to exhibit in its first years

Not Lost in Translation

Talya Yariv | Photography: The "Knights of the Yellow Bird" Squadron and the "Elephants" Squadron | Translation: Ohad Zeltzer ZubidaThe IAF's tactical transport aircraft were the first foreign aircraft to take part in the "Southern Strike" training exercise which took place in Mississippi, U.S. For two weeks, the "Hercules C-130" "Karnaf" (Hebrew for rhinoceros) and the "Super Hercules C-130J" "Shimshon" (Hebrew for Samson) trained for joint missions and close cooperation with the U.S Special Forces and brought the cooperation between the two to a new level

ISTAR's Stars

Liat BloombergerThe secrecy surrounding the ISTAR unit makes it almost impossible to report on. Its staff has all gone through a long and difficult training program and work hard around the clock to gather information and produce intelligence reports. In short, it's a small unit that, very quietly, makes a big impact

More Than Protection

Noa Fenigshtein | Translated by: Ofri AharonThe helmet that rests on the heads of the aircrew members does much more than protect their heads. Developments in the field has allowed for pilots to receive information without lifting a finger and to launch missiles towards enemy aircraft just by looking in their direction

The New Black

Nadav Berger | Translation: Ofri AharonSince the IAF's establishment in 1948, many different airplanes have flown Israel's skies, but few have left a mark in history like the "Black Spit" of the late Ezer Weizman, former Israeli President and IAF commander. The Long Leg

Credit: Shahar Zorani | Ohad Zeltzer Zubida31 Years have passed since Operation "Wooden Leg" in which the IAF attacked the PLO terror organization Headquarters in Tunis, over 2,000 Kilometers from Israel. It was the farthest operation that the "Long Arm" of the IDF executed and it carried a clear and important message aimed at terror organizations. Airborne Alone

Yael Harari | Photography: Lior Dayan | Translation: Nikolai AvrutovRecently, a young pilot in training was forced to abandon its "Efroni" (T-6A) aircraft. When a pilot is forced to abandon its aircraft, he is forced to also abandon the feelings, thoughts, and understandings that accumulated over time. The physical challenge of ejecting from the plane is often accompanied by a mental challenge, which persists long after the pilot safely parachuted onto the ground. How to deal with an aircraft that "betrayed" you? How to handle the "noises" coming out of the engine of the next plane? Apparently, there is more than one answer

The “Sting” has landed

Noam Ofir | Udi Ezion | Nikolai AvrutovIn recent months, Russia negotiates the sales of MIG-29 fighter jets to Syria. This is a good time to recall that in 1997, under a heavy cloud of secrecy, three MIG-29 “Fulcrum” ("Sting" in Russian)) landed in Israel. For several weeks, Israeli test pilots learned the plane and its weapon systems inside and out, flown numerous hours, and tested the jet’s abilities when facing Israeli fighter jets
