I don't get why the mode dial is so ubiquitous.

I live in A mode, some times S or M. I cannot remember when I ever was in a rush to change modes. That dial takes a lot of real estate. I do need to change the ISO fairly often though and could really use a nice accessible dial right there.

Please tell me what am I missing?
