Toronto Hot Film Acquisition Titles: Will Seller’s Market Continue Into Fall?

5 September 2014 10:39 AM, PDT | Deadline New York | See recent Deadline New York news »

If the acquisitions frenzy and precedent-setting deals struck in Berlin and Cannes is going to continue, it will surprise many of the sellers who’ve come to the Toronto Film Festival to fill slots in their 2015 slates. Maybe it’s because there were so many spectacular deals this year, of perhaps it’s because Toronto 2014 is so stocked with studio films that star the likes of Robert Downey Jr, Bill Murray and Denzel Washington. Whatever the reason, acquisition titles seem to be lower key than last year, when Can A Song Save Your Life and Bad Words prompted overnight auctions and $7 million deals, and just about every movie that played here found distribution.

The deal action got underway yesterday and today with Relativity’s acquisition of The Woman In Black 2 and Saban Entertainment’s deal for fest title Tracers. All the ingredients for a continued buying surge seem to be there, »

The Toronto Film Festival is certainly no exception. Since the festival's headquarters moved to the Entertainment District, celebrities have dispersed across the city. Yorkville is no longer a sure thing if you're banking on spotting your favourite stars. And they're popping up in unusual places. Last year, the hot spot proved to be Hudson Kitchen in Little Portugal, of all places. It attracted the likes of Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston (separately).

So if you're wondering which neighbourhoods to lurk about in or which to avoid if celeb sightings aren't your thing, we've got you covered. Behold, our guide to where to find which celebs during Tiff this year.

In the War Zone: Trailer for Guantanamo-Set Drama Starring Stewart, Maadi

8 August 2014 4:56 PM, PDT | Alt Film Guide | See recent Alt Film Guide news »

Camp X-Ray’ trailer 2014: Kristen Stewart and Payman Maadi in Guantanamo’s ‘war zone’ (photo: Kristen Stewart in ‘Camp X-Ray’) The official Camp X-Ray trailer is out. "Make no mistake about it. This is a war zone," a male voice tells the recruits (and us) at the start of the movie trailer, set in Guantanamo’s temporary detention center Camp X-Ray. A "war zone" in more ways than one; he’s referring not only to the physical danger faced by the U.S. military guards (and their Muslim prisoners — or rather, "detainees"), but also, and more ominously, to a war of minds and mindsets between the two groups, who may have more in common with each other than is apparent on the surface. Private Amy Cole aka Kristen Stewart is forewarned: "You can talk to ‘em, but do not let these guys learn anything about you. Do not let them get inside your head. »

‘The Huntsman’ release date announced as ‘Snow White and the Huntsman 2′ drops Snow White aka Kristen Stewart (photo: Chris Hemsworth in ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’) Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman 2 has a new title, as the "sequel" to Rupert Sanders’ 2012 fantasy adventure Snow White and the Huntsman is scheduled to arrive on screens in 2016 without Snow White — played by Kristen Stewart as an armor-clad Joan of Arc-ish heroine (minus the burning at the stake) in the original film. So, Snow White and the Huntsman 2 has now been renamed The Huntsman. Now, does it sound idiotic to drop Snow White from what was purportedly going to be a Snow White movie sequel? Well, it does — and that’s because it is. So, instead of calling Snow White and the Huntsman 2, or rather, The Huntsman, a "sequel," the film is now being referred to as a "spin-off" — or, to be more precise, »
