The terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad 16-50 kit lens :)

No, it's not top-notch glass but for those of you worried that it's some sort of blurry mess. Here are a couple snaps (just snapshots, not art) that show that the lens can perform quite well. The forest fire scene shows loads of detail at 30mm and, after corrections, the geometry and CA are controlled quite well. The tree silhouette shows that with the right settings the little thing is capable of very sharp results. I think mine has a slight decentering that shows at wider focal lengths but even that isn't a big deal.

I find the lens to be best between f5.6 and f8 and between 25 and 45mm.

I'd say it really isn't bad at all. Certainly far better than the complainers would have you believe. They make it sound little better than a Holga.
