Why wouldnt this (D500) replace my camera?

Hello,

So I started getting into photography a little over a year ago, and I have been really enjoying my D5300 over the past year.

I am a pretty quick learner and I have become pretty good, but I really feel like I am limited by my camera. The D5300 just seems to fail me with the lack of micro adjustment capabilities to fix front/back focus issues, and even in some of the best conditions I don't seem to get the sharpest pictures. It can be frustrating.

I've been looking to upgrade, and it seems like the perfect time to start looking at the D500, but I am confused by some of the reports/responses/reviews. I have seen comments about the camera being great for "action" or "sport" shots, but that other cameras will be better for say, portraits or landscape. I am to amateur to understand how a camera that takes amazing fast action shots, wouldn't also take great landscape or portrait shots! Can anyone explain like I am 5 (ELI5)?

One of my favorite features on the D5300 is the articulating screen, and I did not see that on any other model that I would be interested in until I saw the D500 announcement.   So that is a good thing for me.

I would mostly be using this camera to photograph:

-my two kids

-coastal landscapes (including sunsets and sunrises, low light water shots, sailboats)

-wildlife (ducks, pelicans, sea birds, deer, foxes, coyotes, dolphins)

I will probably save up and get the kit with the DX NIKKOR 16-80mm f/2.8-4E ED VR Lens, since that will be a better lens than anything I currently have.

I was going to sell my D5300 (only like 3000 shots) and the 18-105 lens, but keep the 35 1.8 and the 55-300mm zoom.

Any thoughts/suggestions?  Thanks!
