Kodak Alaris launches revamped Moments app

10

Kodak Alaris has announced a major update to its Moments image sharing app, which allows for direct printing to Kodak Picture Kiosks and online ordering of print products, and has enhanced it with what the company calls visual storytelling capabilities.

In the new version, users are prompted to add a caption or larger text to each image, turning it from a purely visual experience into a story. The text field comes with a modern layout, block quotes and other design features and, as before, the final result can be shared via all the usual social networks. Those looking for inspiration can follow others users of the app and - important to those who want best possible image quality - images are stored at original resolution using secure technologies. The app is also ad-free.

Kodak Alaris has based the changes in the app on a customer survey among social network users that showed that a majority found current social media 'superficial' and had concerns about the privacy of their images. The new Kodak Moments app for iOS devices is available now for download in the Apple App Store. Android users will have to wait a little longer but a launch of the update for the Google OS is scheduled for spring 2016.

Visitors of SXSW 2016 can see an interactive installation by artist Marcos Lutyens that is using the Kodak Alaris Moments app and is called “The Memory Observatory.” It will debut on March 12 at the Austin Convention Center and visitors will have the opportunity to transform a photo into a journey of senses from color, to sound and smell. Gave it a try. Completely useless interface that effectly does nothing. Deleted after 10 minutes.

So … All they have done is taken the app and geared it more towards the Social Media. Hardly anything to write home about.

The crazy thing is, Kodak had the infrastructure for this years ago with the Kodakgallery. The sold that to Shutterfly.

Typical dumb, short-sighted American management. Once upon a time, Kodak=photography. They invented digital photography and were a top seller in the early years, despite clueless management, still obsessed with beating Fuji film. Poor executive decisions (NOT unions, the common scapegoat) = bankruptcy. Maybe they need to spend some time in Asia and learn how to run a business.
