Associate Vice President/Chief Risk Officer
You are here
Michelle L. Shorter, MBA is the Associate Vice President and Chief Risk Officer of the Delaware State University (DSU) Office of Enterprise and Risk Management and Administration (ERM).
In her post, Ms. Shorter has created a campus-wide risk program that will increase risk awareness amongst faculty, staff and students and produce data-driven results.
As a risk partner to the DSU community, Ms. Shorter assists with managing risk in the following areas: strategic, operational, financial, compliance, safety, reputation, branding and external.
She currently chairs the Enterprise Risk Management Council, University Safety Committee, and has recently developed a Minors on Campus Committee. Since joining the team in March 2014, she has participated on the Early College High School project team, assisted with the continued development of reporting, and implemented a risk management routine. “Risk is a partnership. I’m excited to continue to build more partnerships across campus so we can collaborate on how to protect the University’s interests.”
In the future, Ms. Shorter plans to launch an Enterprise Risk Management training, refresher compliance training, and introduce a risk management tool that can be used by the University community. “This is an exciting time for Delaware State University. We will be industry leaders with our focus on risk and I am honored to be a part of the vision.”
Prior to her arrival at DSU, Ms. Shorter spent 15 years working in the financial industry. She brings to the institution experience in operations, lending, risk, fraud, and policy in both consumer and small business credit portfolios. She has Bachelor and Master’s degrees, both from Pennsylvania State University and is Six Sigma certified . Michelle has a well-regarded reputation as a Diversity and Inclusion leader and she also received a 2013 award from the National Conference of Black Political Scientists.
