Research at Derby

Research plays a major role in supporting teaching and learning across the University

Between the 2008 assessment and the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, the proportion of the University of Derby's submitted research which was judged as of at least "international" recognition rose from 66.6% to 74.5%. We achieved this whilst also more than doubling our disciplinary footprint from four Units of Assessments (UoAs) to ten. In addition, we more than doubled the number of staff submitted, from 47 to 119, or from 9% of academic staff in 2008 to 24% in 2014.

Given the focus of our Corporate Plan to Inspire, Innovate and Impact, we were particularly pleased that six of our UoAs had 100% of their research impact recognised as "considerable" or above, with 40% of our Psychology research judged to have "outstanding" impact. We want to build on this for the future through our new University Research Strategy.
