vivo launches Xplay 5 Elite with 6GB RAM

1

Smartphone manufacturer vivo has today announced its new Xplay 5 flagship line which consists of two models: the standard Xplay 5 and an Elite model with beefed up specification in some areas. Both models share the same camera module, consisting of a 16MP Sony IMX298 1/2.8-inch Exmor sensor with on-chip phase detection coupled with an F2.0 lens and dual-tone LED flash. At the front you'll find an 8MP module with F2.4 aperture.

On both models images can be viewed and composed on a 5.43-inch Super AMOLED display with Quad-HD resolution that is covered with Gorilla Glass 4. The body is made entirely from metal and with its rounded edges on both front and back looks like a cross between a Samsung Galaxy Edge model and the iPhone 6. Both models come with 128GB of, unfortunately not expandable, storage and a 3,600 mAh battery.

Processing is where the main differences between the two models lie. The Elite model is powered by a top-end Snapdragon 820 chipset and 6GB RAM, more than on any current flagship from the more established manufacturers. The standard model has to make do with the more affordable Snapdragon 652 chipset and 4GB of RAM which should still be plenty of power for all typical smartphone tasks. The Elite also has a better audio chip and comes with a fingerprint scanner on the back.

Both models will launch in China on the 8th of March. The standard model will set you back approximately US$565, the Elite will be a hefty US$655. No information on international availability has been provided yet but as we've seen with previous vivo models the Xplay 5 and Xplay 5 Elite will probably be available outside of China at some point in the nearer future.
