Head of Software Development, IMDbPro & Withoutabox

IMDb has two different businesses – one targeting consumers and one targeting professionals. This role is focused on all IMDb products targeting professionals, and is the most senior technical position leading the development teams for IMDbPro and Withoutabox. You will work closely with the General Manager of IMDbPro and Withoutabox alongside Product and Design Leadership. The role is based in IMDb’s Santa Monica (Los Angeles) office.

IMDbPro is our member-based service which helps entertainment professionals accelerate their careers and manage their professional presence online. Withoutabox is IMDb’s film festival platform that empowers content creators to bring their stories to the world.

If you have experience running a large technical organization and a passion for the film and entertainment industry, this is a unique opportunity. You will work with a variety of technologies across Amazon to re-shape how entertainment industry professionals work. You must love hard problems, collaborating with teams, defining roadmaps, setting and achieving goals, and setting technical direction through product launch. You will manage multiple teams and mission critical systems. You will be responsible for hiring and developing engineers and other managers that will design, build, and operate the systems responsible for running the IMDbPro and Withoutabox services.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· Established skill designing and developing simple solutions to complex, interactive customer experiences
· Development Expertise in OOP, Java, UNIX, Perl, C++, XML, Web services, and UNIX tools
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences
· Proven ability to effectively communicate to executives and non-technical leaders
· Experience running and maintaining a 24x7 Internet-oriented production environment, preferably across multiple data centers involving hundreds of machines
· Demonstrable expertise around specifying, designing, and/or implementing system health, performance monitoring tools, and software management tools for 24x7 environments
· Experience in diving deep into telemetry, metrics and usage analysis through the use of data analytics tools
· Familiar with the challenges surrounding efficient operations and failure mode analysis in large complex distributed systems
· B.S. in Computer Science/Engineering or five years’ equivalent experience in a large-scale enterprise environment is required
· Minimum of 15 years of software engineering experience
· 5+ years leading and managing software managers
· Experience managing large scale technology teams (50+)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Hands-on technical expertise
· Experience leading multiple teams, either local or remote
· Experience with business and technical vision, including experience with subscription-based models
· Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
· Understanding of software development in a team, and a proven track record of shipping software in scope and on time
· Exceptional customer relationship skills including the ability to discover the true requirements underlying feature requests, recommend alternative technical and business approaches, and lead engineering efforts to meet aggressive timelines with optimal solutions
· Experience with large scale webserver infrastructure
· Experience with Java, Linux/Unix, Perl, WebServices and UNIX tools
· Experience in Agile/Scrum software development practices
· Master's degree in Computer Science or related field
