Robert Downey Jr. doubts there will be an 'Iron Man 4'

5 hours ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

It looks like Iron Man won’t be flying solo again any time soon. In an recent interview with USA Today, Robert Downey Jr. said that the billionaire industrialist/superhero he’s played in three highly-successful movies probably won’t see a fourth film with him behind the mask.  When asked about another in the series, Downey Jr. said, “I don’t think that’s in the cards.” He added, “In a way it’s Cap 3, but for me it’s like my little Iron Man 4 and then it's back to the thing we all recognize. Everything pulls over to the side of the road when the thunder of an Avengers thing comes through because that’s how it is until it changes. If it changes." Since the Iron Man movie franchise began in 2008, the films have grossed nearly $2.5 billion. Downey Jr. has also brought the armored suit and his »

What has 'The Walking Dead' done to its best character?

21 hours ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

A review of tonight's The Walking Dead coming up just as soon as I want to be the coffee beans... "The Same Boat" did a lot of very smart and necessary things, continuing the creative roll Walking Dead has been on since we moved past all the stupidity of the fall half-season. On a pure episodic level, it was a simple but tense hour of Maggie and Carol matching wits and wills against the handful of Saviors who had captured them. Keep It Simple, Stupid isn't a rule that saves this show from its worse creative impulses, but this was clean and taut and a good showcase for Melissa McBride and guest star Alicia Witt as Paula. For budget reasons, the show sometimes has to pare things down in terms of both actors featured and the scope of the story to accommodate bigger episodes like the mid-season premiere; more often than not these days, »

Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson Face Down Studios and Theater Owners Over Screening Room

23 hours ago | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Seventeen years after he shook up the music industry by co-founding Napster, Sean Parker is trying to disrupt the movie industry with Screening Room, a service that aims to offer new movies in the home for $50 on the same day they hit theaters. Parker has enlisted the support of nearly a dozen industry heavyweights, including directors Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson, but most exhibitors remain opposed to the idea, and studios aren’t quite sure what to make of it given their different business models. Spielberg, Jackson and fellow A-listers J.J. Abrams, Martin Scorsese, Ron Howard, Brian Grazer and Frank Marshall. »

How Much Is the Best Picture Oscar Really Worth to ‘Spotlight’?

13 March 2016 3:35 PM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

After winning the Best Picture award for Spotlight two weeks ago, domestic distributor Open Road Films and foreign distributor eOne have earned far more than mere bragging rights. “Spotlight” has taken in roughly $4.8 million — almost 11 percent of its $43 million total domestic box office haul — since its triumph on Feb. 28. And overseas, where eOne shepherded post-Oscar expansions in more than 30 foreign markets, the film added another $3.7 million this weekend, lifting its foreign grosses to $38.2 million. That means that the R-rated drama about the Boston Globe’s uncovering of the Catholic Church sex abuse scandal has grossed »

Ron Howard, Brian Grazer Defend Sean Parker Home Movie Plan

51 minutes ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Brian Grazer and Ron Howard confirmed their involvement in Screening Room, saying that the controversial start-up aimed at providing new releases in the home is a way to bring theater owners and studios together.

Backed by Sean Parker and Prem Akkaraju, Screening Room rents films for $50 while they are still in theaters. Exhibitors have long resisted any attempt to shorten the length of time between a film’s theatrical debut and its release on home entertainment platforms, but Screening Room tries to entice theaters and studios by cutting them in on a slice of the revenue.

“When we met Sean and Prem last year it was clear Screening Room was the only solution that supports all stakeholders in the industry: exhibitors, studios and filmmakers,” Grazer and Howard said in a joint statement. “The Sr model is fair, balanced and provides significant value for the entire industry that we love. Sean Parker wants to help the film industry. And if history is any indication, the film industry might want to worry about that. Napster founder Sean Parker recently met with studios to drum up interest in his start-up Screening Room, which would offer first-run movies for home viewing on the day of their theatrical release for $50. The idea has already gained support from a handful of movie business bigwigs including Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson. Theoretically the service, still in a very nascent stage, would benefit movie theaters and distributors, which would each receive a $20 cut each time a »

Lotte Entertainment, South Korea’s second largest vertically integrated film conglomerate, is launching action thriller “The Hunt” at this week’s FilMart. It is produced by Kim Han-min, director of “Roaring Currents,” the biggest film ever at the Korean box office.

The story sees a hunter risk his life to protect his village neighbors, who witness strange gold miners and find themselves in danger. Currently in post-production, the film stars veteran Ahn Sung-ki (“Revivre”) and in-demand supporting actor Cho Jin-woong (“Assassination”).

FilMart is Lotte’s 2016 sales market debut, having skipped Berlin’s European Film Market last month. And the company is keeping things tight with only a modest four titles on its Hong Kong slate.

Other titles included “The Last Princess” is Hur Jin-ho’s first Korean-language feature since 2009’s “A Good Rain Knows,” which it launched at last year’s Asian Film Market in Busan. The historical melodrama focuses on the life of Deok-hye, »

Anti-Trump Ad Is Just Things He Has Said About Women, Repeated by Women (Commentary)

Spoiler warning: Do not read on unless you’ve seen “11.22.63,” episode 5, titled “The Truth.”

Episode five begins right where episode four left off: Sadie confronting Jake after finding a recording in his basement of Oswald and Marina speaking Russian.

Sadie makes a pretty wild first leap after finding the recording. “Everything you say is a lie,” she tells him as Jake tries to explain. While that’s mostly true, Sadie may have skipped a few steps between finding a recording of a couple speaking Russian and accusing Jake of being a serial liar. Though her experience with previous men, namely Johnny Clayton, has put her justifiably on edge and she has no time for questionable character. She storms off before Jake can explain.

The next day Jake finds out that Sadie spilled the beans on his Russian recording to Principal Deke. Between this and the brothel incident, Deke invokes the »
