Robert Downey Jr. doubts there will be an 'Iron Man 4'

2 hours ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

It looks like Iron Man won’t be flying solo again any time soon. In an recent interview with USA Today, Robert Downey Jr. said that the billionaire industrialist/superhero he’s played in three highly-successful movies probably won’t see a fourth film with him behind the mask.  When asked about another in the series, Downey Jr. said, “I don’t think that’s in the cards.” He added, “In a way it’s Cap 3, but for me it’s like my little Iron Man 4 and then it's back to the thing we all recognize. Everything pulls over to the side of the road when the thunder of an Avengers thing comes through because that’s how it is until it changes. If it changes." Since the Iron Man movie franchise began in 2008, the films have grossed nearly $2.5 billion. Downey Jr. has also brought the armored suit and his »

What has 'The Walking Dead' done to its best character?

18 hours ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

A review of tonight's The Walking Dead coming up just as soon as I want to be the coffee beans... "The Same Boat" did a lot of very smart and necessary things, continuing the creative roll Walking Dead has been on since we moved past all the stupidity of the fall half-season. On a pure episodic level, it was a simple but tense hour of Maggie and Carol matching wits and wills against the handful of Saviors who had captured them. Keep It Simple, Stupid isn't a rule that saves this show from its worse creative impulses, but this was clean and taut and a good showcase for Melissa McBride and guest star Alicia Witt as Paula. For budget reasons, the show sometimes has to pare things down in terms of both actors featured and the scope of the story to accommodate bigger episodes like the mid-season premiere; more often than not these days, »

Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson Face Down Studios and Theater Owners Over Screening Room

20 hours ago | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Seventeen years after he shook up the music industry by co-founding Napster, Sean Parker is trying to disrupt the movie industry with Screening Room, a service that aims to offer new movies in the home for $50 on the same day they hit theaters. Parker has enlisted the support of nearly a dozen industry heavyweights, including directors Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson, but most exhibitors remain opposed to the idea, and studios aren’t quite sure what to make of it given their different business models. How Much Is the Best Picture Oscar Really Worth to ‘Spotlight’?

21 hours ago | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

After winning the Best Picture award for Spotlight two weeks ago, domestic distributor Open Road Films and foreign distributor eOne have earned far more than mere bragging rights. “Spotlight” has taken in roughly $4.8 million — almost 11 percent of its $43 million total domestic box office haul — since its triumph on Feb. 28. And overseas, where eOne shepherded post-Oscar expansions in more than 30 foreign markets, the film added another $3.7 million this weekend, lifting its foreign grosses to $38.2 million. That means that the R-rated drama about the Boston Globe’s uncovering of the Catholic Church sex abuse scandal has grossed »

What TV Can Learn From ‘The 100’ Mess

33 minutes ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Spoiler warning: Do not read if you haven’t seen “The 100” season 3, episode 7, titled “Thirteen.”

If you wanted to come up with a playbook for how to handle TV promotion and publicity in the age of social media, a few of the major rules might look like this:

Don’t mislead fans or raise their hopes unrealistically. Don’t promote your show as an ideal proponent of a certain kind of storytelling, and then drop the ball in a major way with that very element of your show. When things go south, don’t pretend nothing happened. Understand that in this day and age, promotion is a two-way street: The fans that flock to your show and help raise its profile can just as easily walk away if they are disappointed or feel they’ve been manipulated.

It all sounds like common sense, right? Except that “The 100” managed »

Ratings: Wgn America’s ‘Underground’ Premiere Sets Network Record

1 hour ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Wgn America’s new drama “Underground” got off to a great ratings start last week, with time-shifting and encores helping it to become the network’s most-watched original scripted entertainment program to date.

In Nielsen’s “live plus-3” estimates, the regular-timeslot debut of the period drama about a group of slaves planning a 600-mile escape from a Georgia plantation averaged 2.3 million total viewers, including 985,000 adults 25-54 (0.83 national rating) — roughly 10 times the network’s primetime average season-to-date. It grew from its same-day averages by 60% in total viewers (from 1.42 million) and by 68% in the demo (from 585,000 or 0.49 rating).

The 2.3 million viewers in L+3 for its regular timeslot premiere puts “Underground” ahead of numerous recent high-profile premieres. It outdrew, for example, Showtime’s “Billions” by 54%, HBO’s “Vinyl” by 105%, Starz’ “Ash vs. Evil Dead” by 256% and FX’s “Baskets” by 30%.

When including three encores last Wednesday, “Underground’s” totals rose to 3.5 million total »

Tandem’s first production for Canal Plus after it was purchased in January 2012, by Studiocanal, owned in turn by Vivendi’s Canal Plus Group – an early example of synergies within Vivendi companies. “Spotless” also marks a new step in Canal Plus’ international production of original content, as Fabrice de la Patelliere, director of French drama and co-productions at Canal Plus said when “Spotless” was announced at 2014’s Mip TV in April 2014.

With Vivendi looking to broaden dramatically its talent base and boost a show’s lure far outside its native France, that international drive is instanced by cast – star Marc-Andre Grondin (“C.R.A.Z.Y.”) is Canadian, »
