George Lucas Hasn't Seen the New 'Star Wars' Trailer

8 December 2014 6:56 AM, PST | Rollingstone.com | See recent Rolling Stone news »

The incredible teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been viewed more than 60 million times on YouTube since it was posted on November 28th. However, none of those views belong to series creator George Lucas. When Page Six asked the director what he thought of the first look at the continuing saga of Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia, Lucas revealed, "I don't know anything about it. I haven't seen it yet."

Page Six also asked if he was curious about J.J. Abrams' vision for the film, »

8 Signs J.J. Abrams Understands Star Wars Better Than George Lucas

Lucasfilm

In 1977, George Lucas brought his long-in-development passion project Star Wars to the big screen. Nearly four decades since its release, Star Wars continues to be a cultural touchstone making its presence felt in television, video games, comic books and cinema. As the years passed, Lucas’ tenure as the mastermind behind the Star Wars universe became a point of contention among long-time fans.

The unrest began with Return Of The Jedi, which some Star Wars enthusiasts deemed an unsatisfying conclusion to the original trilogy. Discontent blossomed into full-on rebellion when Lucas’ prequel trilogy took the franchise down a path that alienated many diehard fans.

Now, director J.J. Abrams has assumed control of the Star Wars universe. Recently, a trailer for Abrams’ entry in saga, The Force Awakens, has reignited Star Wars fans’ passion for their beloved franchise. The teaser seemed to capture the essence of the original trilogy in a »

SNL vs. 'Star Wars': The Force Awakens ... and has a senior moment

7 December 2014 9:14 AM, PST | EW - Inside Movies | See recent EW.com - Inside Movies news »

In the Star Wars universe, we've heard of Imperial Walkers. Now, we have lightsaber walkers. There was no footage of Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher or any of other veteran characters in the trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but Saturday Night Live decided to remedy that last night by giving us its own look at the aging stars of the franchise, 30-plus years after Return of the Jedi. »

Trailer Trashin': The Galactic Saga Continues in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens

6 December 2014 8:06 PM, PST | CinemaNerdz | See recent CinemaNerdz news »

Yes, dear readers, I must again apologize for making you go so long between installments of this column. But I’m finally back, because last week brought us a trailer far too big to ignore. Without further ado, join me as I examine the first look at what’s sure to be one of next year’s biggest films, Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.

Premise: Set approximately thirty years after the events of Return of the Jedi (1983), the film will star a trio of new leads along with returning actors from the previous installments.

My take: Like most children of the 1990s, I grew up loving the Star Wars trilogy. A New Hope (1977), The Empire Strikes Back (1980), and Return of the Jedi were some of my favorite films when I was a kid, and played a huge role in the development of my current love of cinema.

Retro Style Trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens

6 December 2014 12:30 PM, PST | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

Out of all the fan edits that I've seen of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer so far, this one is my absolute favorite. The trailer has been re-purposed to feel like a classic Star Wars trailer, and it's perfect. The video was created by Denver Jackson, and it's an homage to the original trilogy. It includes a sound clip from The Return of the Jedi, and any fan of Star Wars is going to going to love it. Enjoy!

Tsr Blog: How ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay: Part 1′ Loses to the Tyranny of Split Finales

5 December 2014 3:42 PM, PST | The Scorecard Review | See recent Scorecard Review news »

The following contains spoilers for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay: Part 1.

If the last five minutes of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire were like clinging to a pole for dear life with one arm and a whole lot of daddy issues this side of The Empire Strikes Back, its followup The Hunger Games: Mockingjay: Part 1 is like watching one trailer for Return of the Jedi over and over and over again, and then being told to wait another year to see what actually happens. With the revolution of Panem actually coming in 2015, the newest addition to the Hunger Games franchise has the ring of the distinctly less-thrilling episode of a TV series, where characters are treated more like chess pieces, being neatly put into place before a big strike … later.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay: Part 1 is a part of a new phenomenon that is bigger than its own franchise, »

George Lucas Was Terrible At Predicting The Future Of Star Wars

4 December 2014 8:39 AM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

It turns out that George Lucas really did think that the final instalment to the Star Wars tale was Return of the Jedi. An interview with the iconic filmmaker from May 2008 has revealed that George Lucas didn.t have any plans to make Episodes VII-ix. Which probably explains why J.J. Abrams was hired to add to the franchise. George Lucas made these remarks during an interview with Total Film [shared via the Twitter feed of Cinephilia & Beyond] over five years ago. And now that the first trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens has got everyone heated up about the franchise once again, his contradictory statement has started to make the rounds on social media. After being asked, "Are you happy for new Star Wars tales to be told after you.re gone?" George Lucas was pretty adamant that there wouldn.t be any further adventures set in a »

Star Wars: The Force Awakens – 6 New Things To Learn From The Trailer

Lucasfilm

The devil is in the detail. The world has finally been treated to the first teaser trailer for next year’s return to the Star Wars universe, and while the excruciatingly short snippet of film hasn’t revealed any huge details like character names, narrative direction or who the bloody Sith Lord is, there’s still plenty of meat to be picked off the bone. This is Star Wars after all, and everything means something; even if it at first appears unimportant.

It’s still an entire year away, but that’s not going to stop practically all forms of media across the globe from scrutinising over every single frame of the trailer, and for good reason; there’s countless reveals that can lead to copious amounts of speculation and theorising.

If the Rebel/Imperial war of the original trilogy ended with Return Of The Jedi, why are the two factions still in existence? »

New Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer Will Arrive Alongside Avengers: Age Of Ultron

2 December 2014 10:02 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

After dissecting each and every frame of Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘ maiden, 88-second teaser, we’re already waiting with bated breath to see more from J.J. Abrams’ upcoming reboot. We’re still a ways away from the film’s actual release, so of course, the next best thing is a new trailer for the space-faring adventure, which will reportedly debut alongside Avengers: Age of Ultron in May.

Of course, if this proves to be true, it’s really a no-brainer for Disney. Looking at the studio’s schedule for 2015 and it’s clear that, The Force Awakens notwithstanding, Age of Ultron is the biggest tentpole release by quite a margin. So, combine that with the May 4 weekend — widely celebrated as Star Wars day amongst the ever-passionate fanbase — and you have an opportune time to debut a new and (hopefully) full-length trailer.

Besides, there are still plenty of unanswered »

We'll always have Tatooine: On 'Star Wars,' grief, and family

2 December 2014 7:09 AM, PST | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Once, when I was a little boy, I tried to explain Star Wars to my Grandma B. This would have been post-Return of the Jedi, around 1983, when I was pushing 7 and she was about 62. Grandma was a sharp lady, but pop culture wasn’t part of her lexicon. She knew the litany of Roman Catholic saints the way I could rattle off background figures from “a galaxy far, far away.” This memory came back to me on the day we buried Grandma, who died last week at the age of 93. The funeral was Friday, 10 a.m. on the East Coast, »

'Star Wars 7': Mark Hamill Predicted 'Force Awakens' Role in 1983

1 December 2014 6:25 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

It is certainly an exciting time to be a Star Wars fan, as the internet continues to buzz about the release of the first trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens this past Thanksgiving weekend. Although franchise creator George Lucas is not directly involved in this sequel after selling LucasFilm to Disney in 2012, a 1983 interview with Mark Hamill reveals that George Lucas always had plans to return to his beloved galaxy, far, far away. While promoting Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi 30 years ago, Mark Hamill says that George Lucas had asked him about playing an "Obi-Wan type" character, predicting that Star Wars: The Force Awakens would arrive in 2011.

This is incredibly prophetic, and hints that George Lucas always had a long-term plan for his beloved franchise. It isn't clear what else he may have had in store for this series and its characters. Or »
