Welcome to the Delaware State University Self-Study website.  Delaware State University’s overall accreditation by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools ensures adherence to standards of excellence that range from mission and goals to educational effectiveness.  Accreditation is an ongoing, integrated process and is a sign of academic excellence and an external measure of accountability.

This site is intended to educate and inform the campus on the self-study process and the accreditation review. It also  provides a detailed view of Delaware State University’s (DSU) compliance with MSCHE 14 standards.  The University Self-Study Steering Committee, co-chaired by the Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs/Institutional Effectiveness and the Director of the University’s Center for Teaching and Learning, led the 2012 self-study process.

The University’s Self-Study has two overarching goals. While creating a comprehensive review of DSU’s performance as measured against MSCHE’s 14 Standards, the Self-Study also creates a framework for continuous growth and improvement as DSU implements its new vision to become one of America’s most highly respected HBCUs. The self-study process serves the institution as a mechanism for institutional improvement and renewal by providing an agenda for action. In order to reach these goals, the self-study objectives are as follows:

  • Conduct a thorough assessment of the institution’s effectiveness in accomplishing its Mission and goals;
  • Identify the institution’s strengths and suggested areas for growth and expansion;
  • Demonstrate evidence of ongoing efforts to correct identified areas in order to continuously improve;
  • Infuse the campus culture with greater awareness and enthusiasm for change that leads to continuous improvement;
  • Continue to utilize the critical components of assessment, planning, and budget allocation as a basis for data-informed decision-making;
  • Produce a set of thoughtful action items and suggestions that will improve all aspects of the University.

Thanks to all faculty, staff, students and others, who assisted with the process.
