Trying to get baby skin right ...

Took some photos of my 1 year old in my home studio and have been trying to get the skin right, but am having trouble. My eye says the picture is too bright but when I try a little darker, it starts look "dirty" and I keep wanting to brighten it to make it look "cleaner". The color looks a little off, too. Are my eyes playing tricks on me? Could use some help ... thanks.
