SLR Magic’s Anamorphot-Cine 1.33x lenses now shipping with revised specification

Lens manufacturer SLR Magic has announced 'significant' changes to the optical and mechanical specification of its Anamorphot-Cine 1.33x anamorphic lenses, which it says are now available. The lens set was first shown at IBC at the end of last year, but the company says the latest versions have crucial differences – although they don’t say exactly what those differences are. Read more

Panasonic adds weather-resistant Lumix G Vario 12-60mm F3.5-5.6 Power OIS to lens lineup

With the start of CP+ 2016 just one day away, Panasonic is introducing the Lumix G Vario 12-60mm F3.5-5.6 ASPH Power O.I.S. to its family of Micro Four Thirds lenses. Sigma announces 30mm F1.4 for E-mount and Micro 4/3 and 50-100mm F1.8 Art for APS-C

Sigma has added two new fast-aperture lenses to its Art and Contemporary lineups. For owners of Canon, Nikon and Sigma APS-C bodies there's the 50-100mm F1.8 DC HSM Art, which is equivalent to 75-150mm. This lens has a redesigned Hyper Sonic Motor, nine-blade rounded aperture and internal zoom. The other lens is for Sony E-mount and Micro Four Thirds bodies, and it's a fast 30mm F1.4 prime, equivalent to 45mm and 60mm, respectively. Read more

Sigma Mount Converter MC-11 adapts Sigma lenses to E-mount cameras, supports autofocus

Sigma has announced an adapter for Sony E-mount cameras, making it possible to use Sigma's most recent lenses in Canon and Sigma mount on full-frame or APS-C E-mount bodies. The MC-11 is able to use phase detect AF with adapted lenses, and makes use of both camera and lens stabilization when present. Read more

Tamron releases stabilized 85mm F1.8 and 90mm F2.8 macro full-frame lenses

Third party lens-maker Tamron has released a pair of new full-frame, stabilized primes. First is an 85mm F1.8 Di VC USD which has LD and XLD elements, 9 circular aperture blades, a fluorine coating to keep moisture off of the front element and 3.5 stops of shake reduction. Lens number two is a 90mm F2.8 Di VC USD Macro which has many of the same specs as the 85mm but allows for life-size close-ups. Both lenses are weather-sealed and will be available for Canon, Nikon and Sony mounts. Read more

Tamron announces TAP-in console to customize lens AF, firmware and more

Tamron has announced the TAP-in console, enabling firmware updates and customized setup for select SP-series lenses. Much like the Sigma Dock for Sigma lenses, Tamron's console mounts to the back of compatible lenses and connects to a PC/Mac utility, allowing users to optimize focus calibration, set focus limiters and optimize vibration compensation on lenses that support these functions. Canon offers EF-S 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 IS USM, power zoom adapter and directional microphone

Introduced alongside the Canon EOS 80D is an updated 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 IS USM lens, which uses a new 'Nano USM' focus motor. Complementing the 80D's video features, Canon has also announced a power zoom adapter for use with the 18-135mm as well a directional microphone. Read more

ZY Optics launches improved Speedmaster F0.95 35mm lens, claiming 30% better resolution

The Shenyang Zhongyi Optical & Electronic Company Limited has introduced an updated version of its super-fast 35mm lens for APS-C sensor cameras that it claims has better resolution and reduced chromatic aberration. The manual focus Mitakon Speedmaster 35mm F0.95 II is also smaller and lighter than the original model, with a length of 60mm instead of 82mm, a filter thread of 55mm instead of 58mm and a weight of 460g/1.06lb versus 680g/1.5lb. SLR Magic announces anamorphic lenses for filmmakers

SLR Magic, a company known for making affordable optics and accessories for filmmakers, has announced a new set of anamorphic cinema lenses that can be adapted to a variety of lens mounts. The PL mount ANAMORPHOT-CINE line of lenses includes the 35mm T2.4, the 50mm T2.8 and the 70mm T4, all of which can be adapted for Canon EF, Nikon F, Micro Four Thirds and Sony E-mount. Samyang adds 14mm and 35mm lenses to Xeen cinema system

Korean lens manufacturer Samyang has added two new wide angle lenses to its Xeen series of full-frame video lenses. The new focal lengths are 14mm and 35mm, and while the 35mm conforms to the family-standard maximum aperture of T1.5, the 14mm opens only to T3.1. The Xeen system now contains a total of five lenses as these two join the existing 24mm, 50mm and 85mm. Read more

 

Sony releases three premium 'G Master' lenses for FE-mount

Sony has created a new lineup of lenses for its full-frame cameras known as G Master (GM). These are the company's high-end lenses that sit above its 'G-series' lenses and, as you might imagine, command a premium price. The first three GM lenses include FE 24-70 F2.8, FE 85mm F1.4 and FE 70-200 F2.8. In addition to the lenses, Sony also released a pair of 1.4x and 2x teleconverters. Read more

Lomography has resurrected another classic Russian lens to sit next to its Petzval 85mm and 58mm lenses. Fujifilm XF 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 OIS WR lens moves from roadmap to reality

Fujifilm has officially announced its Fujinon XF 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR lens, which has been on the company's roadmap since early 2015. This weather-sealed lens, equivalent to 152-609mm when mounted on an X-series body, has nine rounded aperture blades, 5 ED and 1 Super ED elements, and a fluorine coating. It also features a 5-stop image stabilization system and a linear motor. Read more

Leica updates wide-angle M lenses with new optical and design features

German camera brand Leica has introduced upgraded versions of three of its wide-angle M lenses that offer improvements to both build and performance, according to the company. The trio of reportage favorites are the Leica Summicron-M 35mm F2 ASPH, the Leica Summicron-M 28mm F2 ASPH and the Leica Elmarit-M 28mm F2.8 ASPH. Each is a direct replacement for the current equivalent model. Read more

Lensbaby Edge 50 Optic launches for pre-order

Lensbaby has announced that its Edge 50 Optic lens is now available to existing Muse and Composer owners for pre-order. Previously sold only in combination with the Composer II lens body, the Edge 50 Optic is part of Lensbaby’s Optic Swap System for Muse and Composer series lenses, and was released in October 2015. Olympus launches M.Zuiko Digital ED 300mm F4 IS Pro as sharpest-ever lens

Olympus has launched the M.Zuiko Digital ED 300mm F4 IS Pro, which it claims it the sharpest lens in its lineup. The 600mm equivalent prime lens features built-in IS that also works in conjunction with the OM-D E-M1 and E-M5 II bodies to offer 6 stops of stabilization, measured to CIPA standards - the best we've yet encountered. Olympus says it expects the lens to be used for bird photography, landscape and sports. Read more

Panasonic adds Leica 100-400mm F4-6.3 tele-zoom to Micro Four Thirds lens lineup

Panasonic is adding a high-end super telephoto zoom lens to the Micro Four Thirds lineup: the Leica DG Vario-Elmar 100-400mm F4-6.3 ASPH. This lens is equivalent to a whopping 200-800mm when attached to a MFT body and features much-needed 'Power' optical image stabilization to keep things steady. The lens has several aspherical and extra low dispersion elements, a nine-blade aperture, and a minimum focus distance of 1.3m. The lens also features a compact tripod collar that rotates with the camera and it's weather-sealed, too. More details

Nikon brings stepping motors to its DSLRs with two 18-55mm AF-P lenses

Nikon is bringing stepping motors to its DSLR lens lineup for the first time with a pair of 'AF-P' lenses, both of which are collapsable 18-55mm zooms (one with vibration reduction, the other without). Nikon says that its stepping motor lenses are both faster and quieter than their predecessors, making them quite appealing for video recording. These lenses have two aspherical elements as well as a Super Integrated Coating, with the VR model reducing shake by 4 stops. Read more

Tokina announces ultra-wide 14-20mm F2 lens for Canon and Nikon crop sensor DSLRs

Kenko Tokina has launched the Tokina AT-X 14-20mm F2 Pro DX lens for Canon and Nikon DSLRs with APS-C sensors. This ultra-wide zoom has a pair of super low dispersion elements, nine aperture blades, a one-touch focus clutch mechanism and internal focusing. Read more.

Sigma Announces Protective Lens Made of Clear Glass Ceramic

Sigma has created an all-new protective filter, the Sigma Water Repellent (WR) Ceramic Protector, using Clear Glass Ceramic with water and oil repellent coating. This is the first filter to use such a material in its construction. It promises both lighter weight and higher strength than normal protective filters with minimal effects on transmittance and sharpness.

Panasonic updates five Lumix G lenses with Dual IS support

Panasonic has released firmware updates for five Lumix G lenses, adding support for the maker's Dual IS technology. The feature was introduced in the Lumix DMC-GX8 camera; with this update, a total of eleven lenses are compatible with that model’s Dual IS system, including the Leica DG Macro-Elmarit 24mm F2.8 Macro and collapsible Lumix G Vario 12-32mm F3.5-5.6. HandeVision announces five lenses for its Iberit family – full frame lenses for mirrorless cameras

German/Chinese optics brand HandeVision is set to introduce five new lenses next year that are designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras. Each with a maximum aperture of F2.4, the focal lengths the company is planning to release in its Iberit series will be 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 75mm and 90mm. Read more

Ricoh introduces designed-for-digital HD Pentax-D FA645 35mm F3.5 prime

Ricoh has announced a new wide-angle prime for its Pentax 645D/645Z medium format digital bodies. This lens' name is a mouthful: HD PENTAX-D FA645 35mm F3.5 AL [IF]. The top-line specs are that it acts as a 27.5mm (in 35mm terms) on a digital 645 body, has a minimum focus distance of 0.3m, giving a maximum magnification ratio of 0.25x. Read more

Lensbaby rolls out Composer Pro II and Edge 50 Optic

Lensbaby has announced new additions to its lens lineup with the Composer Pro II and Edge 50 Optic. The Composer Pro II houses the swap-able optic, updating the original Composer with an 'upgraded' metal body, and the 50mm equivalent F3.2 Edge optic provides a tilt shift effect slice of focus that can be moved around the frame. Fujifilm brings weather-sealed 35mm F2 lens, 1.4x teleconverter to X-mount

Fujifilm has added another lens to its X-mount, this one being a low-cost Fujinon XF 35mm F2 prime. This compact lens features a nearly silent internal AF system, 9-blade circular aperture, 2 ED elements, and is sealed against moisture and dust. Also announced is a 1.4x teleconverter, which is currently only compatible with the XF 50-140mm F2.8 zoom. It will, however, be compatible with future lenses, including the XF 100-400mm super telephoto lens expected next year. Mitakon Speedmaster 135mm F1.4, world's fastest 135mm lens, is up for pre-order

ZY Optics, a Chinese company that sells lenses under brand name Mitakon, teased a massive lens on the Chinese social network Weibo over the weekend, the Mitakon Speedmaster 135mm F1.4. While the company revealed a few details at the time, it didn't specify when the lens would be available for pre-order. That changed on Monday, and the company is now offering $500 non-refundable deposits to reserve a unit for shipping in early 2016. Read more

ZEISS announces Otus 1.4/28, third lens for Otus series

German optical manufacturer Zeiss has announced it is to introduce a wide angle to its Otus family of lenses designed for full frame SLR cameras. The Zeiss Otus 1.4/28 is a 28mm lens with a maximum aperture of f/1.4, and will be available with ZE and ZF.2 mounts for Canon EOS and Nikon F cameras. Read more

ZEISS goes wide with Loxia 21mm F2.8 for Sony E-mount

ZEISS has introduced the 21mm F2.8 to its Loxia lineup for full-frame Sony E-mount cameras, joining the 35mm F2 and 50mm F2. Like its siblings, the 2.8/21 allows the user to de-click the aperture ring for video recording. Read more

Voigtlander announces three new extreme wide-angle lenses for Sony E-mount

Voigtländer has introduced three new lenses that will be released in Spring 2016: the 10mm F5.6 Hyper-Wide-Heliar, 12mm F5.6 Ultra-Wide-Heliar, and 15mm F4.5 Super-Wide-Heliar. All three lenses will feature a Sony E-mount for use with full-frame Sony cameras without an adapter. Read more

F0.95 Mitakon Speedmaster 25mm compact lens announced for Micro Four Thirds system

Chinese optics company Shenyang Zhongyi Optical and Electronic has announced that it is adding a super-fast standard lens to its range designed for the Micro Four Thirds system. The new 25mm lens features a maximum aperture of F0.95 but has a very small and lightweight body. Read more

Panasonic confirms Lumix G 25mm F1.7

Tamron relaunches SP series with 35mm F1.8 Di VC USD and SP 45mm F1.8 Di VC USD

Updated Japanese lens manufacturer Tamron has announced it has revamped its SP lens range, starting with the SP 35mm F1.8 Di VC USD and the SP 45mm F1.8 Di VC USD. As a company that usually produces zoom lenses it's surprising to see the first two SP models are fixed focal lengths primes, boasting new design values inside and out according to Tamron. Canon EF 35mm F1.4L II USM boasts new Blue Spectrum Refractive Optics for improved chromatic aberration control

Updated Canon has announced the EF 35mm F1.4L II USM, the second generation of its popular wide-angle prime. It uses newly designed Blue Spectrum Refractive Optics, which claim to reduce chromatic aberration better than any other existing technology. Read more

Nikon delays AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR lens until October

In a press release on its Japanese website, Nikon has announced that its new AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm F2.8E ED VR lens - announced earlier this month - is being delayed from its original shipping date of 27th August to October. No specific reason for the delay has been given, only that it is necessary to 'satisfy the customer'. Click through for more information

Samyang introduces new Xeen pro video lens series with interchangeable mounts

Korean lens brand Samyang has announced a new series of video lenses under the Xeen name. They feature wide apertures and resolution that the company says is aimed at users who shoot 4K and above footage. There will be 24mm, 50mm and 85mm focal lengths initially, and three more to follow next year. Read more

Tamron has updated its 18-200mm all-in-one lens. The 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 Di II VC introduces image stabilization and is the lightest lens in its high-zoom class. Designed for Canon, Nikon, and Sony APS-C camera bodies, it covers a 28-310mm equivalent range. Read more

Nikon introduces 24-70mm F2.8 VR, 24mm F1.8 and 200-500 F5.6 FX lenses

Nikon has released three new full-frame lenses, including a prime and both standard zoom and super telephoto zooms. The one that will likely garner the most attention is the replacement for the venerable 24-70mm F2.8. Two new lenses and 'Post-Focus' technology on the way from Panasonic

Alongside two camera announcements, Panasonic has gone public with plans for a new post-focus feature for selected cameras and two new lenses. Enabled by 4K video capture and its DFD (Depth From Defocus) technology, Post Focus will allow users to select a focus point after capture. New lenses on the way include a Leica DG 100-400mm F4-6.3 zoom and Lumix G 25mm F1.7 prime. Read more

Samyang 100mm macro lenses for stills and video photographers

Korean lens manufacturer Samyang has announced two versions of a new 100mm macro lens. The 100mm F2.8 ED UMC Macro is designed for stills photographers, while the 100mm T3.1 VDSLR ED UMC Macro is aimed at those shooting video. The lenses are essentially the same internally, using 15 elements in 12 groups but the VDSLR version is fitted with an uncoupled aperture ring and gears around both aperture and focus controls. Nikon offers AF-S DX Nikkor 16-80mm F2.8-4E ED VR

Nikon has introduced the AF-S DX Nikkor 16-80mm F2.8-4E ED VR, designed to provide an enthusiast photographer with a wide range of options. Covering a 24-120mm equivalent range on Nikon's APS-C bodies, it offers Nano Crystal Coating for the first time in a DX lens. Read more

Nikon unveils AF-S Nikkor 500mm F4 and 600mm F4 full-frame lenses

Nikon has announced a pair of super telephoto FX prime lenses: the AF-S Nikkor 500mm F4E FL ED VR and 600mm F4E FL ED VR. Meyer Optik to bring back soap-bubble-bokeh Trioplan lens via Kickstarter

Following a successful Kickstar campaign, German optical manufacturer Meyer Optik is set to reintroduce a lens from 1916 that was famous for its unique 'soap-bubble' bokeh. The company hoped to raise $50,000 to fund production of a new Trioplan 100mm F2.8 lens, but at the time of writing pledges have reached $124,000 with the best part of a month still to go. Read more

Tamron and Sigma offer firmware update service for Canon EOS 5DS/5DS R live view issues

Tamron and Sigma have both announced updates for their lenses to provide full compatibility with Canon's EOS 5DS and 5DS R models. Both firmware updates refer to behavior in live view shooting, something that has also caused problems in the Rebel T6s and T6i. This suggests that Canon's latest models feature a change in the way they drive lenses. Read more

Venus Optics launches Laowa 15mm F4, the world's widest macro lens

Chinese lens manufacturer Anhui ChangGeng Optical Technology Company Limited has introduced what it describes as the world's widest 1:1 macro lens. The Venus Optics Laowa 15mm F4 is designed for full frame sensor cameras and can focus down to just 12cm from the front element, and is equipped with a +/-6mm shift function for architectural work at normal focusing distances.
