Freedom of Information (FoI)

Page Contents >

As a public authority, LSE is obliged to meet the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FoI) Act 2000.

The Act makes two basic provisions:

1.

That LSE should maintain a list of the information it makes available as a matter of routine, called the Publication Scheme

2.

That from 1 January 2005, any person making a request for information is entitled to be informed in writing whether LSE holds the information specified in the request, and if that is the case, to have that information communicated to them.

The FoI Act complements the Data Protection Act 1998, which makes provision for the access and proper management of information relating to living people. There are also the Environmental Information Regulations which cover information relating to how the School interacts with the environment.

Please note that any enquiries regarding admissions should go to either the undergraduate or graduate admissions pages.

Please do not use the email address Glpd.info.rights@lse.ac.uk for making requests relating to qualification checks. You should go to Reference Requests, where most checks can be done automatically. If you use the Glpd.info.rights@lse.ac.uk email address, there will be a delay in responding as your email will need to be forwarded on.

Training and Guidance

The Freedom of Information team regularly supply training and advisory sessions to committees, advisory groups and consultative forums.

From March 2012, the team will also run courses on the Freedom of Information and Data Protection Acts, in conjunction with the Learning Technology and Innovation (LTI) . You can read more about the courses in March on the LTI blog, while details of further courses will appear on the LTI homepage.
