MI6's top assassin (Mark Strong) has a brother. Unfortunately for him, he's an English football supporter (Sacha Baron Cohen) from the town of Grimsby. Nobby has everything a man from the poor English fishing town of Grimsby could want - 9 children and the most attractive girlfriend in northern England (Rebel Wilson). There's only one thing missing in his life: his little brother, Sebastian. After they were adopted by different families as children, Nobby spent 28 years searching for him. Upon hearing of his location, Nobby sets off to reunite with his brother, unaware that not only is his brother an MI6 agent, but he's just uncovered a plot that puts the world in danger. On the run and wrongfully accused, Sebastian realizes that if he is going to save the world, he will need the help of its biggest idiot. Written by Sony Pictures Entertainment
This is my review of Grimsby (spoiler free)
Directed by Loius Leterrier
Distributor: Sony
Cast: Academy Award nominee Sacha Baron-Cohen*, Mark Strong, Isla Fisher, Rebel Wilson and Academy Award winner Penelope Cruz**
Plot: Two brothers from Grimsby were separated as children Sebastian (Strong) became an agent for MI6 whereas his older brother Nobby (Cohen) stayed in Grimsby. However a new assignment forces them to team up.
Many residents of Grimsby were saying that this action-comedy was a really bad idea but it turns out it's not as "grim" as they thought. Louis Leterrier's (The Incredible Hulk, Clash of the Titans) courageous comedy is hilarious and has many moments that take the mickey but in a jokey form.
Cohen the creator of Borat (2005) and The Dictator (2012) creates yet another outrageous comedy that I was willing to watch, many people called me crazy. This film shows that you should never judge a book by it's cover.
Here are some points why I think it's good:
Hilarious dialogue: The hilarious dialogue will make you laugh till you can no longer breathe, the dialogue that really sticks are the sex references there are many of them. One of them in particular is the real clincher I won't say it though because spoilers.
Bad-ass action: The main genre of this film is action and boy it intense especially because most of it comes from bad-ass spy Sebastian (Strong). The action is thrilling in every moment and also funny in parts.
On the down side here is a negative point:
Offensive jokes: This film makes some very offensive jokes which some people may find shocking most of the jokes come from Nobby.
This film however was almost never made mainly because of the residents from Grimsby even though none of the film was even made in Grimsby for that part it was filmed in Essex. It was 50/50 chance that I was going to it but in my opinion money well spent.
Verdict: A hilarious action-comedy that never let's up on the jokes, this film is a success easily Cohen's best work since Borat. 8/10 a must see.
This film is not for everyone but whoever is interested this film is worth it.
