DVD Review – Kill Your Friends (2015)

Kill Your Friends, 2015.

Directed By Owen Harris.

Starring Nicholas Hoult, James CordenCraig RobertsGeorgia KingJim Piddock and Joseph Mawle.

Synopsis:

An A&R executive for a big record label goes on a killing spree so he can sign the next chart-topping hit makers.

Based on John Niven’s novel of the same name, Kill Your Friends is to the ‘90s music industry what American Psycho was to ‘80s investment banking: a drug-fuelled satire with a bloody mean streak and an abundance of gallows humour– and some really banging tunes which serve as a time capsule to days gone by.

The music industry can be cutthroat, and no one understands this more than Steven Selfox (Nicholas Hoult), an A&R executive so focused on climbing the corporate ladder, he doesn’t hesitate in leaving a few bodies in his wake if it means eliminating his competition.  With a record »

Corin Hardy Interview for ‘The Hallow’

Corin Hardy

Out now to download The Hallow is one of the best horror films of 2015 that you probably didn’t see. A début film directed by Corin Hardy, the story follows English couple Adam and Clare as the relocate to Ireland with their baby son only to discover that the natives, human and otherwise, are less than welcoming.

The Hallow features some stunning performances, which coupled with a fantastic fable and creepy practical effects, combine to create a horror film with heart and emotion. We loved it when it was released theatrically and can’t wait for the DVD release on 21st March, and as such were over the moon when we were granted time with Hardy to discuss the project.

Demonic Creatures and Chainsaws Revved Up For Scream Factory’s April Lineup!!

10 March 2016 3:05 PM, PST | iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news »

We previously reported that the gang at Scream Factory are about to make the month of April an awesome one, with the 4/12 double feature of Anthony Perkins-led films Destroyer and Edge Of Sanity (link). Personally, that alone is reason enough to celebrate, but any respectable horror fan knows that the Sf crew likes to go big. Corin Hardy (the upcoming reboot of The Crow)’s The Hallow is arriving April 5th, with the tale of a man up against a demonic entity, loosened from the wilderness around it.  We had a short chat with Hardy last year, and it’s definitely enough to get genre fans excited for this Scream Factory/IFC Midnight team-up release.

Amazon Prime to Kill Off ‘Ripper Street’ After Fifth Season

7 March 2016 4:40 AM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

London — The fifth season of crime drama “Ripper Street” will be its last, Amazon Prime has revealed.

Amazon stepped in to save “Ripper Street” in early 2014, following outcry from fans when the show was cancelled by the BBC after two seasons. The original Tiger Aspect production team was commissioned by Amazon to create season three, which launched exclusively for Prime members in the U.K. in November 2014.

At the same time, seasons one and two were made available for unlimited streaming for Prime members. When season three launched on Prime Video, it was streamed more than any other TV show on the service and was the most popular British drama amongst customers.

Ripper Street: confirmed to end after series 5

Amazon has announced that Ripper Street has begun filming on its "fifth and final series", with an old face returning...

When Amazon announced a simultaneous renewal for series four and five of the resurrected Ripper Street, there was a tacit understanding that those two runs would mark the end of the show.

That understanding has gone from unspoken to well... spoken, in the press release announcing the start of series five filming, which definitively calls it the "fifth and final season".

Ripper Street creator Richard Warlow previously announced his intention to take the show all the way to the end of the Victorian era, which, by our calculations, will require another short time jump to get from the 1897-set fourth series to the close of Victoria's reign in 1901.

‘The Hallow’ VOD Review

Note: With the digital HD release of The Hallow coming on March 7th (the DVD follows on March 21st), here’s a reposting of our review of Corin hardy’s film from last years Film4 Frightfest.

In what has been a somewhat unremarkable year for the horror genre thus far (minus It Follows), Corin Hardy‘s Irish flick The Hallow sadly refuses to buck the trend, despite some initial potential. Writer-director Hardy centres The Hallow in a remote rural Irish millhouse where newly moved in tree-surgeon Adam (Joseph Mawle) and his family come under attack by creatures living in the woods.
