Even as pulp fiction, this book is not worth the time. The characters, how the characters act in the story, and the action is just not internally con..Show More »sistent. Each problem is a small one in itself; in total the careless writing kills the story. There are lots of examples, but here are a couple. 1) Two characters rush to another city in an attempt for stop a murder (although calling ahead might have been simpler and more effective). They take a private jet for its speed and efficiency. But when they arrive they don't have a private car waiting to rush them to the site of the action, but instead take a cab! 2) One of the characters is put in situations by others to investigate the loss of her former fiancee. It didn't ring true that she, rather than someone not emotionally involved, would be sent.

This book is about torture, past and present, which seems to be a theme these days. In the Dragon tattoo books, it was a necessary part of the tapestry of the story. Here it is just gratuitous and tedious. In fact, this entire book was tedious.

(The only positive note was that January LaVoy was a terrific reader.)

I enjoyed this audio book very much, but did not know that this came from a series. I felt as if I was walking into the middle of a conversation. Ch..Show More »aracters and relationships had already been defined. That being said, It seemed like a few novels going on at the same time, totally unrelated. I don't want to give any spoilers though.
For the most part this novel was engaging and had me wanting more. I read it in two days. I enjoyed the writing very much and the narrator was very good. Though I do not feel like going back to other past novels to "catch up". I would like to hear more though. Continuing this story.

The narration was horrible. Jack Morgan sounded like an Indian attempting to speak with a Texas accent. Very annoying.

No. I felt the storyline lacked substance and imagination. I've heard all these stories before. Not familiar with Maxine Paetro so I can't comment of ..Show More »that.. I really enjoyed the first Private book and was expecting great things from this one. Two men from a foreign country that kill and rape women, but get diplomatic immunity; an employee of Private that is tried for murdering an old girl friend, and then there is the continuing dysfunctional relationship between the twin brothers. I find it difficult to believe that twin brothers could really cause the other so much pain.
