First Trailer For Louder Than Bombs Exudes A Quiet Power

As is often the case with smaller, independent films, Louder Than Bombs has already spent some time gathering momentum on the festival circuit – including the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival, during which our own Sam Woolf sang its praises in a capsule review. As the third feature film from writer-director Joachim Trier and his co-writer, Eskil Vogt, this drama paints a quietly powerful portrait of the ways in which deep grief resonates through a family.

“On the eve of an exhibition honoring noted war photographer Isabelle Reed (Isabelle Huppert), whose career was cut short in the wake of her untimely death, a father and two sons grapple with her domestic and professional legacy. Flashbacks of Isabelle’s conflated role of wife, mother and photojournalist intermingle with the present-day attempts of the Reeds to manage their grief amid combat of a different kind. Family patriarch Gene (Gabriel Byrne) discovers secrets about his »

Pixel Piracy Review

Making and drawing comparisons between games is a double-edged sword when it comes to reviews, in my eye at least. On one hand, comparing and contrasting is one of the more effective tools that one can use to inform and get one’s point across, and when it comes to games, there’s plenty of differences and similarities among titles which helps to facilitate this style of writing. However, focusing one’s critique around comparing one game against another could backfire, alienating readers who don’t know much about either game. In essence, a lost in translation moment. Because of that, I try to shy away from making comparisons one after the other, because I can’t assume that my audience is as informed about a particular game or subject as required.

This time, I think that line of logic has to be abandoned.

There are probably a few exceptions, »

Tron Run/r Review

One of the interesting things about gaming is the way certain genres carry a negative connotation before players even see what the projects have to offer. For example, the first-person shooter often evokes groans and expectations of washed-out “gritty” color schemes from certain gamers, while others roll their eyes at the teenage characters and bouncy over-enthusiasm of JRPGs. Most of these are just lazy generalizations, of course: for every stereotypical Call of Duty and Megadimension Neptunia, there is a complex BioShock and Persona to serve as a counterbalance.

There is one genre that may have earned the ire of game fans, however, and that’s the “runner” — largely because of its prevalence as a way for hack developers to cash in on both mobile storefronts and Steam, and because even major publishers can’t seem to help themselves when it comes to piling on the microtransactions. Now, of all the intellectual properties out there, »

Heavy Rain (PS4) Review

Each console generation brings with it a plethora of games, but only a fraction end up being memorable and continue to be talked about years later. Quantic Dream’s Heavy Rain – which made its much anticipated PlayStation 3 debut just over six years ago – happens to be one such game, and its impact continues to be felt through titles like Until Dawn.

The third effort from David Cage’s Parisian studio, Heavy Rain became a most wanted release as soon as its tech demo hit the Internet. That’s because, not only did the video hint at something intriguing, but it also featured some of the best-looking facial animations to date.

Although the wait was a long one, Cage and his team delivered, presenting a very good and rather unique experience. One that ended up being quite successful, too, as the game has sold over two million copies. On top of that, »

Xenoraid Will Bring Vertical Action To PC And Consoles Later This Year

After successfully releasing Crimsonland and Sparkle 2 last year, 10tons Ltd. have announced that their latest project, Xenoraid, is on track to launch this year. Like their previous efforts, the title will debut on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita and Windows PC.

A shoot’em up with a focus on vertical-based action, Xenoraid is looking to be a less intense alternative to the hardcore action of bullet hell shooters. 10tons Ltd. Producer Jaakko Maaniemi explained that while the studio has a respect for bullet hell shooters, their shoot’em will provide a more traditional take on the genre.

I’m personally in the driver’s seat of Xenoraid, and the whole concept of the game stems from the fact that I personally enjoy shmups. Or at least the shmups that preceded the bullet hell movement. To me, bullet hell games feel too much about memorization, dodging, and extreme precision. I prefer »

Deck 13 Unveil First Images From The Surge

Early last year, we learned that German studio Deck 13 would not be returning to their successful Lords of the Fallen franchise for the sequel. Rather, the developer chose to focus on The Surge, another original IP from the relatively new studio. Now, after debuting at Gamescom, they’ve finally released the first official screens from the title.

Following in the action-rpg footsteps of their debut effort, The Surge is Deck 13’s vision of a dystopian future. In the game’s world, Earth is in the midst of death, as rapid technological advancements and rampant pollution have poisoned our once vibrant-world. The only way to survive in this futuristic hell is by utilizing bulky exoskeletons in order to traverse the deadly future suburbs.

While it’s still early in the RPG’s development cycle, Deck 13 is promising that The Surge will feature several unique mechanics. From a character progression system based »

Rogue One Logo Revealed As Mads Mikkelsen Spills New Character Detail

See Full Gallery Here

Rumor has it we’ll be getting our very first trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in front of Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War in May, but in the absence of some official promotional material in the meantime, we have a couple of interesting new tidbits for you here.

First up, the movie’s official logo (or at least a preliminary one) has been revealed via a bespoke duffel bag that a crew member put up for sale on eBay. Apparently the Aurebesh phrase featured on the bag translates to “Go rogue,” so not a lot for spoiler hounds to latch on to there.

A little more substantial is Hannibal actor Mads Mikklesen’s confirmation that his character is not a villain, as was initially rumored.  Here’s what he had to say in an interview from last year:

“No, my character is actually not a bad guy, »

Two New IMAX TV Spots For Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice Unleashed

Warner Bros. has released two TV spots for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, and while they’re light on new footage, they should get you excited about what’s to come in the movie. You can check them out above and below.

Combining the Caped Crusader and Supes in the same release has all the makings of a billion dollar blockbuster, and it’s going to be fascinating to see if this historic clash brings in moviegoers the same way the likes of The Avengers and Star Wars: The Force Awakens did.

With tickets now on sale, we’ll actually start to get a better idea of that this week when the first tracking data for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice finds its way online. It’s then that we’ll get a much better picture of just how much of a chance it stands of being a »

Flatliners Remake Adds Rogue One Actor Diego Luna

Elysium actor Diego Luna has been spending time in the galaxy far, far away shooting Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but according to THR he’ll soon be changing things up and moving to the afterlife for Sony’s planned remake of popular ’90s horror drama, Flatliners.

No details on his character have been provided just yet, but he joins the previously announced Ellen Page (X-Men: Days Of Future Past, Hard Candy), who will play the female lead.

The original film saw a team of medical students (Julia Roberts, Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Bacon, William Baldwin and Oliver Platt) voluntarily “die” in order to experience what happens on the other side, before being resuscitated just before things get a little too permanent. As you can imagine, things don’t go according to plan and the team experience nightmarish visions as the sins of their past come back to haunt them… »

Marvel Releases Another Batch Of Images From Captain America: Civil War

See Full Gallery Here

While the images in the gallery above had previously done the rounds online thanks to some scanned versions from Empire Magazine, Marvel has today officially released these nine stills from Captain America: Civil War. Along with some awesome behind the scenes shots, there are also plenty of other intriguing new scenes on display here.

Included in the gallery is an unmasked Black Panther alongside Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson, along with the likes of Black Widow and The Winter Soldier heading into action. Once again conspicuous by his absence, however, is Spider-Man, a character Marvel has yet to unveil to fans and probably won’t until the film hits theatres.

Game Of Thrones Bts Featurette Provides Our Best Look Yet At Season 6

Though we’ve had a huge batch of stills and that creepy Hall of Faces teaser, we’ve yet to see any actual footage from the upcoming sixth season of HBO’s Game Of Thrones – but this extended behind-the-scenes featurette offers a few intriguing glimpses of what certain characters will be getting up to when we reconnect with them in April.

As several camera operators discuss their experiences filming for the season, we get a few brief shots of the likes of Melisandre, the Dothraki horde that (we assume) captured Dany in the season 5 finale, and Jorah and Daario continuing to search for their missing queen.

More News From The Web

Most interesting, though, are a couple of brief shots of two young boys practicing swordplay in a yard that looks an awful lot like Winterfell. It’s been speculated that this could be the flashback to the younger versions »

Henry Cavill Teases Justice League And Addresses Rumours About George Miller Producing

Rumours started doing the rounds last year that Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller was being eyed to take the helm of the Man of Steel sequel, and reports last week that he will be producing Justice League seemed to add some weight to that. Well, if it’s happening, Henry Cavill certainly knows nothing about it.

In the video above, the Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice star also reveals that he’s read the screenplay for Justice League and that he’s particularly excited to work alongside Jason Momoa (the Game of Thrones alum is playing Aquaman). Is that just the first name which sprung to mind, or do the heroes share some particularly memorable scenes? That remains to be seen….

First Look Promo For The Walking Dead Season 6, Episode 12 Released

The Walking Dead has been on a role since returning to AMC earlier this month, and last night’s episode opened up the world of the survivors in a big way. After paying a visit to the Hilltop Community, Rick Grimes and company made the decision to take out Negan in exchange for supplies, but as fans of the comics know, that’s going to backfire in a major way!

For more details on where things go next in The Walking Dead, here’s the brief synopsis for “Not Tomorrow Yet”:

Rick and the group realize the only way to maintain the peace of Alexandria is to fight a new enemy. This time, though, our group might be outmatched.

That all sounds rather ominous, eh?

Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan isn’t expected to show up in The Walking Dead until the season finale, and his battle with Rick »

Daisy Ridley Promises That Mark Hamill’s Star Wars Episode VIII Role Is “So Cool”

Star Wars: The Force Awakens was amazing, but the lack of screentime for Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker was definitely disappointing. That made the movie’s final scene no less chill inducing of course, but fans have spent the past couple of months fretting over the possibility that the Jedi Knight won’t have a major role in this new trilogy.

It’s a good thing then that Daisy Ridley has now made it clear that big things are on the horizon for Luke as Rian Johnson takes the helm of Star Wars Episode VIII.

“Me and Mark have been rehearsing a lot, and it’s really amazing. When we went back to Skellig to do the opening of [Episode] VIII, it was so crazy doing the same scene with a different crew of people. He’s amazing to rehearse with, and I’m very excited to be doing the rest of the stuff. »

The Age Of Adaline Director Might Helm Final Divergent Film Ascendant

Following news that Robert Schwentke would be bowing out of directing duties on the fourth and final Divergent movie, called Ascendant, reports have come out that Lionsgate/Summit may have found a new director for the project.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studios are in talks with Lee Toland Krieger to helm The Divergent Series: Ascendant. Krieger previously directed the romantic dramas The Age of Adaline and Celeste and Jesse Forever, so Ascendant would be his first foray into a big studio film.

Before that final film in the franchise, The Divergent Series: Allegiant will be hitting theaters next month, on March 18. Ascendant is essentially the second half of the final book in the franchise, whose namesake — Allegiant — has been given to the third film. I’ve read them all and I still barely followed that last sentence.

Unfortunately, the series as a whole has been a bit of a victim of diminishing returns, »

Peggy Infiltrates Whitney Frost’s Lair In A Clip From The Agent Carter Season Finale

Marvel has shared a new thirty-second clip from “Hollywood Ending,” the big finale to the second season of Agent Carter, prepped to air Tuesday, March 1.

In the clip (seen above), Peggy and Daniel Sousa discover the villainous lair of Whitney Frost and attempt to unravel her endgame before it’s too late. As the clip progresses, Sousa and Peggy take pictures of Frost’s schemes and notes; since Peggy doesn’t “speak megalomaniac,” she’s hoping Howard Stark can help decipher the dense material.

Of course, it doesn’t take long for the flirting to begin, and for Peggy to wax poetic about the turmoil she’s faced on her trip to California, which Sousa describes as being “full of surprises.” Understatement of the year, Sousa.

Here’s the synopsis for the episode:

Peggy Must Make The Ultimate Sacrifice In Order To Destroy Zero Matter, On The Season Finale Of »

Marvel’s Iron Fist Will Take Fighting Lessons From Marco Polo’s Stunt Coordinator

Brett Chan has been added as a stunt coordinator on Marvel’s Iron Fist, where he’ll help shape and guide the mystical martial arts of the titular superhero for the Netflix series.

If that names sounds familiar, it’s because Chan previously helped out another Netflix show, Marco Polo, with its dependably awe-inspiring fight sequences. Besides that series, Chan has a history of working on films like X2: X-Men United, Blade: Trinity, and even in the small-screen DC universe with Arrow.

The news comes from Twitter, where a fan asked Philip J. Silvera (a stunt coordinator for Marvel’s Daredevil) who would have the honor of helping Iron Fist beat up bad guys in his new show.

For those who aren’t sure who Iron Fist is or what his powers are, here’s a quick snapshot of Netflix’s upcoming superhero show. Suffice it to say, it sounds »

D.B. Woodside Would Love To Play Green Lantern For DC

Actor D.B. Woodside has voiced interest in playing Green Lantern in the upcoming slate of big-screen DC comic book adaptations, particularly in the standalone Green Lantern Corps movie slated for very, very far away on June 19, 2020. DC has yet to confirm whether it will be going the Hal Jordan or John Stewart route for the new franchise, but recent rumors have hinted it could be both.

Woodside decided to wear a Green Lantern-inspired T-shirt at Comic Con last year in an attempt to grab DC’s attention, which apparently hasn’t worked quite well yet, although the company is arguably still pretty far out from casting the cosmic character.

Recently, though, he spoke with Cbr to explain his history and love of the superhero.

“The whole series and the characters have always been one of my favorites,” Woodside told Cbr. “I grew up as a comic-book guy, so I love these characters. »

Wax Motif Steps It Up With Remix Of Snbrn’s “Gangsta Walk”

What is it with Nate Dogg samples in dance music tracks lately? Snbrn incorporated one from the late rapper’s “Gangsta Walk” into one of his tropical/future house hybrids of its namesake last month, but Wax Motif has repurposed it as a wobble-heavy bass house track in his new remix.

For what it’s worth, though, the samples definitely work in this context as well. Metallic effects applied to cuts of the original verse compliment the heavily modulated bass line, resulting in a danceable groove that still retains enough swagger to hold the attention of the Edm generation.

What’s more, the bridge of the song features an inventive transition into a slower hip-hop rhythm that showcases a longer section of the original sample. In an industry of one-trick ponies, it’s refreshing to see a producer find such a creative way to demonstrate their stylistic versatility.

Production Has Officially Begun On Saban’s Power Rangers

Production is officially underway in Vancouver on Saban’s all-new Power Rangers film reboot, whose title was recently confirmed as the admittedly succinct: Saban’s Power Rangers. The movie will follow the established Power Rangers format, introducing five ordinary high school kids who rise to the occasion when they discover their small town of Angel Grove is under the evil eye of an alien menace.

Recently, it was announced that that very menace will be Rita Repulsa, played by Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games, Pitch Perfect). Banks isn’t afraid to step into the role of an over-the-top personality, but her role in Saban’s Power Rangers marks the first time she’ll be playing a straight-up Big Bad villain, so that’s reason enough to be excited.

Banks will be joined by an army of newcomers taking over the suit of the Rangers: Rj Cyler (Billy the Blue Ranger »
