Updated: Fasten your seat belts – Hillary Clinton just agreed to join Bernie Sanders at Fox News Channel’s town hall on Monday night in Detroit.
The former Secretary of State and Dem frontrunner will appear with the Vermont senator at 6 PM ET the night before the Michigan primary to take questions from moderator and FNC chief political anchor Bret Baier, and audience members at the Gem Theater . It marks Clinton’s first appearance on FNC in two years; she previously appeared on the network in 2014 during her book tour, in a joint interview with Baier and Greta Van Susteren.
Baier notably co-moderated last night’s Republican debate in Detroit, which garnered nearly 17 million viewers and was the second highest rated program in FNC’s history.
Previously: Fox News Channel just announced Bret Baier will host a one-hour Democratic presidential town hall with Sen. Bernie Sanders on Monday, March 7th at 6 PM ET. The event will be presented live at the Gem Theatre in Detroit in front of an audience of Michigan voters, just one day before that state’s primary. Baier, FNC”s chief political anchor, announced the sit-down on his show tonight. Dem frontrunner Hillary Clinton was invited to participate, but declined, citing a conflict in her campaign schedule. This will mark the first Democratic town hall on Fox News during this election cycle and Sanders’ first appearance on Baier’s Special Report.

I’m old enough to remember why FOX called Trayvon Martin a thug. When they said the president was crying fake tears over dead children to gain support. I remember when it’s members called Sandra Fluke a slut for wanting access to birth control. I remember when it’s anchors said Hispanics are a problem because they “steal our jobs.” I remember when they said countless women who are raped are sometimes asking for it. I remember. Yep. I remember the racism, the xenophobia, the misogyny, the birtherism. And all of that was just THIS YEAR. The fact that Bernie is going on this show is a slap in the face of anyone who would call them a progressive. It’s shameful. MoveOn, which endorsed Bernie, has even protested candidates and begged them to not have debates because of how hostile they are to minorities. This makes me lose respect for him. As a black person who was at least considering him, he has now lost my vote.
Yeah, he’s going to Fox News but know Bernie never moves to the right from progressive ideas. By going on Fox he’ll fight any of those arguments that you brought up. He’s been speaking up for progressives and minorities for the past 40 years I don’t forsee him changing that now, just watch the town hall and then make your decision.
Hard for me to believe knowing he tried to dump sludge on those poor folks down in Texas. I’m so disillusioned with Bernie now.
Bernie HAS to reach out to the Fauz News people. They’re not irredeemable, you know.
A lot of people don’t know who Bernie is still. He had no chance if he refuses to go on Fox or any other corporate run and owned (cnn or msnbc) network. Who do you think you might vote for?
I understand your resentment of Fox News and it is surely grounded.
As a Bernie supporter, I kindly beg you to reconsider. Please have a look at the Fox News invitation to Bernie here to understand the context:
The invite is at 9:20
Educated and feeling the bent.
All these Hillary supporters sound like fools, now that Hillary will be attending, as well.
Yet you aren’t disillusioned with Hillary’s countless heinous atrocities? You only reading the conservative hit pieces on Sanders, or actually learning your history? Clinton is worse than Kissinger, and a vote for her is a vote for the murder of countless African, Asian, and South American children by the warlords and radicalists and cartels. Do your homework, you’re making us look bad.
Give an example. You just made a broad statement. To be cogent you have to list few examples. I am waiting
I think Mez is right. Bernie is just looking for another platform to speak about his ideas that has hasn’t wavered on in his entire 30+ year career. I don’t know why you would think he’s ready to abandon everything he stands for… It’s actually kind of ridiculous of you to say that.
He’s going where his message has yet to proliferate. He’s already started a wildfire with the Dems… Now watch as he lures undecided conservatives who know nothing about him…
It’s amazing how many message boards I’ve seen where it’s all about Drumpf vs Clinton. People on the right don’t have a clue about him, because he was never mainstream enough for the conservatives to lay the hate on. He’s an unknown, and there are so many disallusioned Republicans out there who are just ripe for the picking. They know Hillary, and they hate her, and they think they have Bernie summed up with his “socialist” ways, but you watch… but it’s mostly little snippets of news here and there, and poking fun at his age. If he has a chance to win, it’s by reaching out to the other side of the aisle where people are waiting for a miracle. When they realize he’s not this radicalist, but rather, somebody with principles, who hasn’t wavered on his beliefs for anybody, THAT stability in a candidate is going to be very appealing.
So you went from considering Bernie to reciting a common smear against him pretty fast. Perhaps you were never actually going to vote for him.
As to your claim you are being misleading. The waste was not sludge it was low level waste like scrap metal and workers gloves. Bernie didn’t make the waste but it exists anyway and something has to be done. Texas has a much drier and stable climate making disposal much less likely to contaminate drinking water etc.
Chuck you need to read up on an issue before you make outlandish claims like that. Because first off it wasn’t sludge it was “items such as scrap metal and worker’s gloves… as well as medical gloves used in radiation treatments at hospitals” So your sludge comment is way off. Plus this was an agreement struck between the states, Texas was paid for providing this service. How about you follow up on your claims before spreading misleading info?
wtf? such a load of bernie trashing. he is quite simple the only candidate with any platform worth supporting, IMO.
He’s spent his whole life fighting for social and economic justice issues, the smarmy mainstream news gives him short shrift and speaks liberally of his corrupt colleague whom I shall not name that has done only negative things in terms of those same social and economic justice issues. you want to bag on Bernie and call him a sellout? fine, but just remember that you are lying to yourself and doing the world no favor. History will not remember those in the corporate camp with respect. History will make you ashamed you didn’t support what is right and good when you COULD HAVE. Wake up. This is not a fight between Sanders and $hill-ary… it’s a fight between Sanders and her owners and handlers, who are people like Donald Trump…
There are a lot of FOX viewers, mainly working class white men, who have been misled to vote against their own interests. We are talking “Reagan Democrats” here, or maybe “Trump Democrats” today. Bernie has been talking about these people, and I have known quite a few. Bernie’s purpose here is to reach those people where they live. This is why he went to Liberty University too. Bernie understands how politics works.
well dont vote for trump or hillary they are both racist
Has Clinton lost your vote now that she’s going to be with Bernie on Fox?
Hilarious. Feel the Bern!
Ms Clinton repeatedly refused invitations until after Senator Sanders accepted (and stood to gain media exposure without her there).
Which one demonstrated leadership?
Bernie, because Hillary capitilated and followed his lead. Windsock, liar, warmonger, fake marriage…
That’s pretty ridiculous, Chuck. He’s going into the Lion’s den to STAND UP for all those instances that you mentioned. You can’t win by running away and sticking your head in the sand. You need to be as tough as Bernie is–and see beyond this appearance- which is SMARTER THAN SMART- to WHY he is doing it. Put on your big boy pants.
Are you mentally disabled? He’s going on there to share the exact opposite message. He’s going in there because he’s not afraid to face those demons in their own hellish cave.
And guess what: Hillary just decided to join him – probably because she knew people would call her a f***ing coward if she dodged it – AGAIN.
“Lost my vote”. Dude, you must be smoking something…
I don’t think any intelligent person would say Hillary is a coward that watched the 11 hour republican witch hunt of the most admired woman in the world for the 20th straight year. She handed Trey Gowdy his ASS. Bernie is no match for Hillary Clinton.
lol….hillary…the most admired woman? you haven’t done any research….within 5 minutes I found enough footage of her lies and flip flops, her pandering to know she’s a selfish powering mongering psychopath. Have fun living in your bubble that continues to prevent society from evolving. Silly Sheep.
Yes, it is so heroic when a person digs a hole for themselves and tries to climb out.
Bernie is no match for Hillary? Who beats every Republican (Bernie) who is considered more honest(I wonder why)–Bernie. Who takes money from Goodman Sacks and Wall street–Hillary. I lived thru the Clinton years and voted for him, but the times have changes and our country is worse off now ; that’s why I am going for the “new” face this year–Bernie.
@Jean – I don’t like Hillary because she often is WRONG on her initial decisions. That is extremely costly to the American people. I want someone who has been right more often…and that is Bernie Sanders.
Most admired woman in the world for the 20th straight year?! I’m curious who they are polling at Gallup when she has a national unfavorability rating of 53%….
Take the fight to the enemy. That’s Bernie, fighting for everyone.
I understand why you feel that way.
But here’s the thing, the people who watch Fox news NEED to see this debate more than anyone. They usually get 2nd hand news or absolute rubbish like what you just mentioned. If the candidates are actually allowed to answer questions in a thoughtful way, they may win over independents or people who can’t stand voting for Trump.
It also shows a willingness to reach across the aisle and engage the other side. As Americans, we need to work together and stop fighting eachother. In essence, we need to be bigger than the Fox news set.
Turtle: Thank you for bringing up logical elements of his decision to go on FOX. Also, it will possibly force Hillary to start answering tough questions about her lies, treachery and lack of a soul. The only problem I have with Hillary jumping in last minute is that she made some phonecalls to order FOX to stay away from the email issue. Just my two cents, what do you think?
Chuck I understand how you feel but give Bernie the benefit of the doubt and watch the fox town hall. Who knows you might end up really enjoying watching Bernie tell an idiot the truth to his face in front of his whole party.
Being a Bernie supporter, you sicken me by relegating my preferred candidate to basically sludge all because he is appearing on a biased news source in order to find a broader audience in a race he is quickly losing. If you are so easily disenchanted by his outreach to stay relevant because of your skin color, you were never a supporter, but simply an opportunist who would vote for anyone who would say anything to get you vote. You are not missed.
It says Clinton originally declined because of a campaign scheduling conflict. Not any problem with Fox. And of course whether she actually had a conflict is not addressed, we just assume she evolved in her priorities.
Well considering AA are not supporting him… And who cares if he goes on fox, it’s broadcasted everywhere. But that’s it, now he’s not worth voting for cuz he goes on a network, that’s good thinking. Hillary is too so…
And then you ignore the fact Hillary is on here too
He lost your vote to that noble principled politician that never appeared on Fox News.. What’s their name again?
So who are you voting for then?
The crazies make up the other half of the country whether you like it or not. Change will not happen by avoiding confrontation with our ideological adversaries. Take them on in their own arena and beat them with the strength of a compelling argument. Don’t wuss out and run scared like Clinton almost did.
@Chuck – Bernie is going on to Fox to educate fox viewers. Watch the town hall before you make such brash decisions.
It is amazing to me that you heard all of this stuff and still continued to watch FOX News; or did you? Too bad you have no idea what you are talking about. Tell me which person on Fox called Sandra Fluke a slut? Tell me which person said that women who are raped are asking for it? Oh, and please tell me on what date. You are a LIAR and a follower. You never heard any of this but what you do is listen to other people’s so called “truths”and that is laziness on your part to not do your own research. By the way, it is the beginning of March 2016. I am pretty sure when Rush Limbaugh called Sandra Fluke a slut, that was not this year. FYI: Rush does not work for Fox News!
What? He is going on Fox to reach a demographic that he otherwise can’t. Hes going on Fox to COUNTER their racist comments. Hes going on Fox to set the record straight. I urge you to reevaluate your decision, and vote for a candidate based on their policy, not your disagreement with their choice of what news network to appear on.
Fox news is all the things you say. But please have faith in your candidate, Mr Sanders. He is all the things he says he is. Fox is the perfect venue for him to introduce himself to some of these rabid racists, xenophobes, and misogynists who currently watch Fox. Don’t worry about Mr Sanders changing his views to fit the venue, he won’t. He is steadfast in his mission, and you should continue to feel the Bern. Especially now when he is surely going to face hostile opposition from their commentator (and now that war hawk HRC). Mr Sanders is the man who wants to bring equality to the table, to have the conversation about ending the perpetual wars, making the Wall Street monsters pay their fair share, and above all to help the middle class. Don’t diss him for appearing on Fox. Stand with him as he faces them and the hate they are perpetuating through their stupid network. I have faith that he will change a few hearts. You can’t change minds, only hearts. The more you learn, the more you Bern.
Bernie Sanders is going on Fox to share his ideas and viewpoints to make this country better. He’s trying to branch out and reach Republicans to persuade them that he is in fact the best choice for president. Condemning him for doing so is downright foolish, and you obviously have no clue what he stands for. This man marched with Martin Luther King Jr! He was arrested in Chicago for protesting segregated housing. Meanwhile, Hillary was campaigning for Barry Goldwater, a man running for president who was advocating for segration. As a black man, it should be clear who the right choice is. Somehow, that’s not the case though. Smh.
I wouldn’t vote for Bernie, but much kudos to him for agreeing to this. At least he has no problem appearing on Fox News, unlike Hillary.
Bernie Sanders is fearless in getting his message out, and will speak to all audiences, because he is FOR all people! Please watch this (non) debate, since Hiliary can’t match him in what he can provide for America. Especially in a Fox setting, where they may create some tough context. Go Bernie!
To those who are upset that Bernie agreed to this town hall: Bernie going on Fox news has nothing to do with compromising his values or moving to the right! He is so focused on getting the progressive message out that he will even go on Fox News to spread it. There are a lot of people in the Republican party who have never really had a good look at him or what his campaign is all about, and they will be much more likely to watch him on Fox, than on a more liberal station. Please do not let anger over this attempt to spread his message interfere with your voting for him!! #WhichHillary #Sanders2016
Bernie doesn’t fear Faux News.
Fox practically begged him to do it- and Senator Sanders was very firm and clear that it would be on his terms.
I can’t stand fox news either- however- this is a way to bring a National spotlight to the atrocity that happened in Flint, and hopefully reach people who are “republican” but not haters and zealots. Bernie is not going to be pushed around, he will probably take the opportunity to rightfully scold corporate media as well.
I hope the “hosts” ask appropriate questions, conduct themselves respectfully, and remember that the fate of this county might well be determined in this election.
Most importantly for them to keep in mind, is that the MAJORITY of Sanders supporters, Independents, and republicans that don’t like their choices- WILL NOT vote for Hillary under any circumstances. If they don’t want the Trump monster they created with all the free air time in the Oval Office– they had better promote Senator Sanders. Check your numbers and facts-
it is the truth.
I’m just very, very disappointed in both of them. As a black man, Fox News has done so much to harm my community. The things they have said, the racial tones they have sent are unforgivable. I’ll still support whoever the nominee is but it’s fairly sad and disheartening if they don’t at least call them out on it.
Chuck is a Clinton campaign plant. Guarantee it. How much does David Brock pay you to troll Twitter and blog comments?
Do you often impersonate other people on here or am I just special?
I’m not sure what Sanders’ game plan is, but he has been on Fox before as a guest on Bill O’Reilly’s show (which is actually how I first heard of him). Every appearance he managed to piss Bill off and get him yelling while still respecting him; this town hall will like be the same.
I’m so happy that the democrats are going to get a chance to share their message with people who would otherwise be told a bunch of lies and nonsense.
I think it would be a petty mistake not to engage with “the other”. We need to get past all this taking sides and work together!
Bernie relishes an opportunity to engage with opposing viewpoints. The more conservative the other side, the more animated he gets, the more he fires up his supporters. Of course he agreed to do the show.
Who else is amused that Hillary was “busy” but then changed her mind after Bernie’s acceptance got a little mention in the media. Typical.
I would like to see both asked questions they have not anticipated or prepared for. Let’s see who can stand up better to some real pressure.
Pass the popcorn!
Even Nancy Pelosi said she is tired of the super delegate system ….vote Bernie the empire will crumble look at all the support he’s gained people just have to not be lazy and go vote Hillary is taken his whole campaign her team cheated in Iowa,NV,mass the Clintons are Criminals
Once again Bernie leads hillary follows.
There was NEVER, no f’n way she was ever going to let Bernie get that much media!! Shows ya she is in panic mode! I thought she had such a pressing engagement, probably with one of her Wall Street or NRA
Cohorts!!
It would be awesome if Bernie and Hillary join forces and gang up on Fox. That would likely be awesome and drive up ratings as well….
I don’t think that many of you are understanding that Bernie is simply not afraid to go to Faux News. He has also always supported a 50 state plan for the democrats (which requires one to engage in red areas) and Bernie feels that he can even pull some republicans to his agenda. So, why wouldn’t he go on Fox?
Hillary should go on first so Bernie reply to her criticism for a change. No coin flips Bernie just say you will go on last!
She’s always following Bernie. Some leader.
He will be the same, authentic, issue-driven man that he always is. This is a great opportunity to spread his message to a wider audience, some of whom may just be willing to open their minds and hear what he is saying. Him going on Faux News is not a bad thing. It’s seems extreme to stop supporting the only honest and uncompromising candidate because he is attempting to educate and spread his message to people you don’t like. I hope you change your mind! Check out feelthebern.org for his positions on all the issues! Go Bernie!!
Sanders has been on FOX News before, Hillary avoids it because she’s afraid and a snob, but I’ve noticed that the other networks have been asking her hard questions, but that’s when her majesty allows an audience. She’ll sit with Baier but will stay away from Chris Wallace and Megan Kelly because they’ll reduce her to a puddle of goo.
Hillary has been on Fox News before. In fact, she have even been interviewed by that tyrant Bill OReilly. She really held her own- this will be an interesting debate.
im surprised as she has stated over and over for days she would not attend cause a schedule conflict guess will see
I am wondering why almost all of the debates are held on cable channels. Now, people have to be “Priviledged” (able to afford cable) to view the presidential debates. I think they should all have to be broadcast on the free networks and National Public Television so that all Americans, including the non-rich could have an opportunity to view them.
