I cannot be more compelled than to watch people being people. The fact that none of them are redeemable and are doing the best they can with what little knowledge of what this existence is reminds me of all of us out here in the universe. The constant struggles with identity, the self-absorption that comes with struggling with identity, the need to be a part of a group and also to separate oneself from it-- bellissimo! I am thankful for a show that is willing to embrace all facets of the human existence, both trivial and monumental at the same time. We are all doing the best we can.

Remember the scene at the library and the discussion about the rabbits? What this season is depicting is the idea of "inherited trauma" which is that certain tastes and proclivities can be so traumatic as to be incorporated into DNA and handed down through the generations. That is also the point of the flashbacks. Since this is the 2nd season it is time to get past the surface level detail and see the writers/show runners are asking questions about the nature of family and individuality. Does the narcissism and transgressive behavior displayed by this family derive from the past, biology or the way they were nurtured? Unacknowledged children etc... If you can set aside the "red state/blue state" values debate you will encounter a heartfelt contemplation of profound issues wrapped in a bright and shiny package of cutting edge writing and performance...which does at times make the narcissism difficult to stomach. BUT THAT'S INTENTIONAL.

I am glad the Pfeffermans are back - I did miss them. I swear, it's like you jump right into their big, neurotic family. I forget I am watching a scripted show because the cast is so splendid, and the dialog is spot on. That being said, I wasn't pleased with the focus on the children this season, particularly Ali, I find her character gross, overbearing, and narcissistic. She was more interesting last season when she was lost and discovering herself. The self she has discovered, well, I don't like. Maura's character is something of an afterthought this season, which is a complete waste of the fabulous Jeffrey Tambor. I hope for a Season 3 that shifts back to her.

Disappointing waste of good actors and a promising story line. Very little left of intellectual value. Disjointed flashbacks. There is no one left to care for. The character's self-indulgent behaviors were exaggerated in Season 1, due in part to the condensed perspective required by the show's platform, but somehow managed to stay within a certain margin of error There was room left for empathy. Season 2 devolved into an irredeemably toxic bunch of jerks. Just as most of the Pfefferman's friends have escaped them, so should we.

I really wanted to love this show's second season. The character of Maura was compelling in the first season and I looked forward to seeing how both she and her family adjusted as she continued to discover herself. Unfortunately, the writers apparently suffer from the same malady as those who wrote for the show Six Feet Under, which also had a novel concept in its first season. Jill Soloway and company apparently don''t realize that complexity in characters doesn't have to mean they should be so unlikable that viewers are irritated just seeing them onscreen. Also, being edgy does not make up for a lack of a plot. I liked the historical aspects and love both Jeffrey Tambor and Judith Light but I don't know if I'll return for next season.

I was absolutely enthralled with season 1 and couldn't wait for season 2 to finally get here. I binge watched the season in two nights. I still am completely caught up with this family but something was just a bit off this time around. The flashbacks were a little strange (and took up a lot of time) and the emphasis on the adult kids rather than Maura was a bit disappointing. When she was focused on, she seemed to be second guessing her choice or generally not a very happy person which confused me because all of her pained expressions were unexplained. Maybe in season 3...

The acting is still stellar. Couldn't get any better. The new characters all do a wonderful job and fit right in. Judith Light really shines this season. I didn't like her last season - she seemed so out of place - but this time around, she fits right in.

Although I still love the show, it felt a little forced. There was a lot of nudity for the sake of nudity which really wasn't necessary at all. I don't mind it but it seemed to be there because it could be not because it furthered a storyline. The whole season felt a little Nip/Tuck-ish if that makes sense. That show often was off the rails to the point of making me just shake my head but never take my eyes off the screen until it just was too bizarre for even me to keep up with. I hope that the next season is a little less out there and brings us more of Maura and his/her struggles and triumphs. A bit less emphasis on the whacked out siblings would be welcome. They are interesting to watch but aren't really why the show captivated me in the first place. This is Morty/Maura's story and the kids should be secondary. This season it was the other way around.
