The long-gestating Spider-Man spinoff “Venom” has gotten new life at Sony, which has hired Dante Harper to write the script, an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing the movie, which is expected to launch a franchise that exists separately from the upcoming Spider-Man movies starring Tom Holland. In the Spidey comics, Venom is a villainous alien symbiote who needs a human host to survive, and imbues that person with super powers.
