Does Breaking Bad Hold Up Over Ten Years Later?
Who could forget what many critics and fans deem one of the best television shows ever made, Breaking Bad. Starring Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, the AMC drama follows the misadventures of Walter White, who’s diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and resorts to cooking and selling methamphetamine to provide for his family. The show ran for five seasons and has won over five Emmys including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. However, it’s been nearly ten years since the series finale and over a decade since the pilot in 2008. In the landscape of television,

‘Weird: The Al Yankovic Story’ First Look: Daniel Radcliffe Transforms for Roku Biopic

‘Weird: The Al Yankovic Story’ First Look: Daniel Radcliffe Transforms for Roku Biopic
“White and Nerdy” doesn’t capture just how glorious of a transformation this is.

The first look at Daniel Radcliffe as five-time Grammy winner “Weird Al” Yankovic is already giving us a curly-haired mullet, bright tropical print tee, and, of course, a rocking mustache. Radcliffe made headlines when he was cast as the titular comedy musician in the Roku Channel’s “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.”

“Wearing the Hawaiian shirt is a huge responsibility that I don’t take lightly,” Radcliffe said in a press statement about taking on the role. “I’m honored to finally share with the world the absolutely 100-percent unassailably true story of Weird Al’s depraved and scandalous life.”

Produced by Funny or Die and Tango, “Weird” began filming in February 2022 with a script by Yankovic and Eric Appel, who also directs and executive produces.

The official description for the film promises that the biopic “holds nothing back,

Animated Better Call Saul Spin-Off Slippin' Jimmy Reveals Cast

Animated Better Call Saul Spin-Off Slippin' Jimmy Reveals Cast
The "Breaking Bad" universe just keeps getting bigger. "Better Call Saul" was the first spin-off of "Breaking Bad," and it took the shyster Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk), a supporting character from the world of teacher-turned-meth-kingpin Walter White (Bryan Cranston), and made him into the star of his own well-received show (similar to what "Frasier" once did with a certain "Cheers" character in the sitcom world). We also saw Walter's partner in crime, Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) return in "El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie." Now we've reached the point where even the spin-offs are getting spin-offs, as "Better Call Saul" has its own animated series coming this spring.

The news that "Better Call Saul"...

The Biggest Buys at Sundance Revealed How Distributors View the Future of Film
In today’s streaming-first landscape, every acquisitions deal demanded an answer to the same question: How will your movie cut through the noise for audiences faced with an endless number of all-you-can-eat content buffets?

From Netflix and Apple to IFC Films and Sony Pictures Classics, each of the 19 acquisitions out of the festival revealed much about how distributors will chart their paths in an industry that’s never felt more upside down. Here’s a look at how some of the biggest deals out of Sundance illuminate the murky path in the future of entertainment.

Apple looks for love with “Cha Cha Real Smooth

Apple has long fancied itself as the socially responsible, creative face of consumerism. With nearly $200 billion in cash on hand, opportunistic festival acquisitions have become a favorite way to show it. This year, it was Cooper Raiff’s sophomore feature “Cha Cha Real Smooth.” The $15 million

Riley Stearns on Creating the World of Dual, Capturing Loneliness, and Directing Karen Gillan’s Double Performance

Riley Stearns on Creating the World of Dual, Capturing Loneliness, and Directing Karen Gillan’s Double Performance
Dual, the third feature from writer/director Riley Stearns, follows a young woman named Sarah (Karen Gillan), who opts to be replaced with a “double” after finding out she’s terminally ill. With a deadpan delivery and a dry sense of humor, the film and its characters navigate this alternate world, one that requires a duel to the death in Sarah’s unique situation. Sarah must learn to become violent, accept brutality into her personality, resetting herself in a way.

Stearns’ newest draws clear inspiration from Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos, a comparison many are likely to make, but he still wants it to be a “Riley film.” He revisits certain threads from his first two films, Faults and The Art of Self-Defense, with the idea of a character learning how to alter themselves to feel safer or the need to fundamentally shift as a means of self-preservation.

Dual finds humor in Sarah’s situation,

In “Masters of the Universe,” Allen will play an orphan named Adam who discovers he is a prince destined to be the savior of a faraway land. He must quickly learn of his power and the importance of saving his true home from an evil force. Did a Virtual Sundance Slow Down Sales After Last Year’s Record-Breaking Buying Spree?
When Sundance was forced to pivot from a hybrid festival to a virtual one, there was disappointment from the filmmakers, yet many sellers and buyers predicted that, for better or worse, acquisitions would continue at a pace that might even outstrip last year’s record-setting deals for titles like “Coda” and “Summer of Soul.” But despite Sundance front-loading nearly all of its premieres to the festival’s first four days, deals didn’t start coming in earnest until after everyone had a chance to view the full lineup. Starting Tuesday, a wave of acquisitions were announced, including Searchlight’s $7.5 million deal for the Emma Thompson dramedy “Good Luck to You, Leo Grande,” Rlje Entertainment’s low-seven-figure deal for the Karen Gillan-Aaron Paul thriller “Dual,” and Nat Geo’s mid-seven-figure buy of the volcano doc “Fire of Love.” While Apple plunked down $15 million for Cooper Raiff’s “Cha Cha Real Smooth,

How a Hip-Hop Dance Scene in ‘Dual’ Lightened the Bleak Mood on Set for Aaron Paul and Karen Gillan (Video)
Dual,” the latest film from director Riley Stearns that stars Karen Gillan and Aaron Paul, contains humor amid a bleak premise.

Gillan stars in the film as a woman who gets a terminal diagnosis and chooses to pursue a cloning procedure to ease the emotional toll on her friends and family when she’s gone. But when she makes a miraculous recovery, she attempts to have her clone decommissioned, which leads to said clone taking action to hang onto her life by suing for a court-mandated duel to the death of original vs. the double.

“I just really liked the idea of confronting oneself and like finding out who you are, who you want to be, who you don’t want to be, all those themes are really intriguing to me,” Stearns said at TheWrap’s virtual Sundance studio. “Once I figured out the whole duel to the death aspect of it,
