Pow! Just like that things have changed. After Dorchester’s news that they would be going the digital route and scrapping their mass market line many in the crime fiction community were wondering what would happen to Hard Case Crime.
We’re pleased to announce that we’ve just reached agreement to publish an exclusive Hard Case Crime volume, which will also be the first in the series to debut in hardcover. Volume #69 will resurrect a pair of early Lawrence Block novels: 69 Barrow Street and Strange Embrace, bound back to back in the classic “doubles” format, featuring brand new art by Robert McGinnis. You can look for more details, including ordering info, later this year, with a projected publication date in the first half of 2011.

Amen, Callaway. Seems like they’re missing the whole appeal Hardcase with the hardcover thing. Hopefully this will be the sole hardcover they produce.

Paperbacks are also affordable…and Hard Case Crime has already done a “doubles” in paperback form.
Can I buy the special edition of “Fifty-to-One” either the 500 copy edition or, preferably, the 50 copy “specially bound” directly from you? If not, where.

Never saw any mention of Hardcase in the Subterranean Press edition of the collection of old novels by the once-pseudononymous Westlake and Lawrence Block (HELLCATS & HONEY GIRLS), so I don’t know it that is the book folks posting on here were referencing. One hardcover _will_ publish in Sept 2011: GETTING OFF by Lawrence Block (originally written under the byline of Jill Emerson). Then the paperback publishing picks up again, with QUARRY’S EX by Max Allan Collins (Sept 2011), THE CONSUMATA by Mickey Spillane and Max Allan Collins (Oct 2011) and CHOKE HOLD by Christa Faust (Oct 2011), which means they’ll be publishing four books this year, three of ‘em in paperback. Not sure if they’ll stick to only three books per year (they published three paperbacks in 2010), but hey, something’s better than nothing.
