Jackie Robinson Foundation on December 22, 2015

Freshman JRF/United Health Foundation Scholar Michael Bervell (Harvard University, Class of 2019) recently received the National Caring Award for his volunteerism – a great way to bring to a close his first semester in college.

Through Hugs for Ghana, Michael and his team (including his brother Joel, a fellow JRF Scholar and a Junior at Yale) collected $75,000 in toys, school supplies, and donations for underprivileged children in Ghana.

The annual Caring Awards, given by the Caring Institute, exist to “promote and reward acts of caring and humanitarian service around the country and internationally.” Five adults and five young adult winners are announced each year and are profiled in CARING magazine.

“Having the Jackie Robinson Foundation as a family away from home has been invaluable,” Michael recently wrote to JRF. “Thank you, JRF, for being such an unwavering resource.”

As a JRF Scholar, Michael is following in the legacy of Jackie Robinson by making a positive impact on the world around him. Congratulations, Michael!
