■ Ostomy Support Group

Providing support and resources for ostomy patients, this group meets 2 to 4 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month at SNMH. Next meeting will be on Thursday, March 3. Free. Call 530-272-8619 for more info.

■ Martinis and a Movie

On Wednesday, March 16, the SNMH Foundation will host Martinis and a Movie featuring the movie “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” at the Del Oro Theater. Come enjoy specialty martinis and treats. Proceeds support “Remember Me: The Face Behind Dementia,” a campaign assisting patients and caregivers struggling with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets in advance are $30, and may be purchased at SNMH Gift Shop, SNMH Foundation, Mill Street Clothing in Grass Valley or online at: http://www.brownpapertickets.com. ■ Moonlight Mammograms

Ladies: Enjoy wine, music and massage during your next mammogram appointment. Join us on Wednesday, March 16, 4 to 8 p.m. at SNMH Diagnostic Imaging Center’s Moonlight Mammograms. Appointments are required. Call 530-274-6262. 

■ Diabetes Facts and Nutrition

A two-hour small group class for individuals with pre-Diabetes or diagnosed Diabetes-Type 1 and Type 2. Class will focus on carbohydrate counting and individual meal plans will be provided. Blood glucose monitoring will be discussed. Tuesday, March 29, 10 a.m. to noon. For information or to pre-register, email SNMHWellness@snmh.dignityhealth.org or call 530-274-6124. Understanding the aging brain

March 1, 2016 — 

As we age, it can be difficult to determine the difference between normal lapses in memory and expected decline in mental sharpness versus what could be early signs of dementia.

Dignity Health Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital wants to help you understand the aging brain better. On Wednesday, March 16, plan to attend “Your Aging Brain: What is Normal,” from 6 to 8 p.m. at the hospital.

A class in using natural home remedies will be offered from 1 to 3 p.m. March 13 at 224 Church St., Nevada City (Women of Worth Thrift Store building).

Martinis and a Movie featuring 'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels'

February 24, 2016 — 

On March 16, the Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Foundation will host the popular Martinis & A Movie event at the Del Oro Theater in Grass Valley. Proceeds will support Remember Me: The Face Behind Dementia, a campaign assisting patients and caregivers struggling with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Enjoy a specialty martini and gourmet treats while taking in the featured movie, “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,” a 1988 comedy starring Steve Martin and Michael Caine. Set in the French Riviera, the movie portrays two rival conmen competing to swindle an American heiress, played by actress Glenne Headly, out of $50,000.

“The Artist’s Way,” which is offered as a telecourse, starts Feb. 9.

Paint the Town Pink: Survivors to be treated to makeovers

October 20, 2015 — 

When asked how long she has been cancer-free, Tamara Fadel said, “I don’t consider myself to be cancer-free because the effects seem to be here to stay, so I’ll never be free of it, but I’ve been a survivor of it for six years.”

Fadel and two other cancer survivors have been selected for makeovers during the 9th annual Paint the Town Pink event, taking place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. this Thursday, Oct. 22. inside the main building at the Nevada County Fairgrounds (see sidebar).
