Disney will unleash “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” as a digital home entertainment download on April 1, followed by a Blu-ray release on April 5.

Disney CEO Bob Iger announced the release dates Thursday morning during the Mouse’s annual meeting in at Roosevelt University in Chicago.

Iger, not surprisingly touted the success of the latest “Star Wars” feature, noting that it set a new industry record for domestic box office in racking up more than $900 million since its Dec. 18 debut. The worldwide haul of the pic, directed by J.J. Abrams, has topped $2 billion. He left no doubt about the importance of the franchise to the studio. Shareholders received special “Star Wars” posters in the swag bags for the meeting as well as a special code for a free download of “Force Awakens” when it goes live on April 1.
