Daytime Emmy for Best Younger Actress: Will Hunter King ('Y&R') be next to win three in a row?

Hunter King ("The Young and the Restless") has won Best Younger Actress at the Daytime Emmys for the last two years in a row. That's not especially uncommon at these awards, but winning three consecutively is quite rare. Can she pull it off? -Break- Daytime Emmy Awards pre-nominations: 'Y&R' leads with 23, 'Days' at 20 A three-peat has only ever been achieved by three actors, but two of them pulled it off in this category: Jennifer Finnigan ("The Bold and the Beautiful," 2002-2004) and Jennifer Landon ("As the World Turns," 2006-2008). The other was Chandler Massey ("Days of Our Lives," 2012-2014) in the Younger Actor race. To do it, King will have to overcome the largest field of pre-nominees at these awards: there are 14 actresses vying for nominations in this race, including three others from "Y&R." One of those young women is also a past Emmy champ: Camryn Grime. »

Oscar predictions contest winner explains why she stuck with 'Spotlight' from the beginning (Video)

Daytime Emmy for Best Younger Actor: Will Bryan Craig ('Gh') or Max Ehrich ('Y&R') finally win?

"Days of Our Lives" has dominated the Daytime Emmy race for Best Younger Actor for the last four years, with Chandler Massey prevailing three times (2012-2014) and Freddie Smith following him with a win in 2015. But both of those actors are out of the running now (Massey left the show in 2014, and Smith aged out of this category before leaving in 2015), so can one of their recent challengers capitalize on their absence? Max Ehrich ("The Young and the Restless") has been nominated for the last three years, and Bryan Craig ("General Hospital") has been nominated for the last two. Both are waiting for their first turn in the winner's circle. -Break- Daytime Emmy Awards pre-nominations: 'Y&R' leads with 23, 'Days' at 20 Ehrich is the only pre-nominee in this category for "Y&R," which is surprising since "Y&R" has more pre-nominations overall than any other soap (23). Daytime Emmy for Best Supporting Actress: Who will win with 2-time champ Amelia Heinle snubbed?

Who will win the Daytime Emmy for Best Supporting Actress? It may be hard to say with the two-time defending champ Amelia Heinle ("The Young and the Restless") not pre-nominated this year. But there is still one Daytime Emmy-winner representing "Y&R" in this contest: Christel Khalil ("Y&R"). -Break- Daytime Emmy Awards pre-nominations: 'Y&R' leads with 23, 'Days' at 20 Khalil won Best Younger Actress in 2012 for playing Lily Winters, her only win out of four nominations in that category, but she has yet to be nominated for Best Supporting Actress. Five total women represent "Y&R" in this contest, making it the most pre-nominated soap in the category ("Y&R" is also the most pre-nominated soap overall, with 23 citations across six categories). While there is a bounty of competition in the Limited Series/Movie acting categories, there is a standout on ABC’s “American Crime": Connor Jessup. Daytime Emmy for Best Supporting Actor: Will Jacob Young, Darin Brooks & Bryton James graduate from younger category?

After actors turn 26 they're no longer eligible to compete for a Daytime Emmy for Best Younger Actor, so they often migrate up to the Best Supporting Actor contest. That's the case for a few of this year's contenders, who previously won Emmys as younger men and now hope to win for the first time in the supporting field. -Break- Daytime Emmy Awards pre-nominations: 'Y&R' leads with 23, 'Days' at 20 Both of the pre-nominominated actors from "The Bold and the Beautiful" are past Younger Actor champs, though they actually won those earlier prizes for other shows. Jacob Young won for "General Hospital" back in 2002, and Darin Brooks prevailed for "Days of Our Lives" in 2009. Daytime Emmy for Best Actress: Can former 'One Life' star Kassie DePaiva finally win for 'Days of Our Lives'?

1 March 2016 1:17 PM, PST

The Daytime Emmys were notoriously stingy to "One Life to Live," the ABC soap that ultimately went off the air for good in 2013 after 45 years. That was illustrated by multiple actors from the show who got no Emmy love until the moment they left for another soap. Could the same thing happen for Kassie DePaiva, who starred on "Oltl" for two decades and then appeared on "Days of Our Lives" following "Oltl's" cancellation. Daytime Emmy for Best Actor: Will Anthony Geary tie Cloris Leachman with record 9th acting win?

1 March 2016 8:48 AM, PST

This year's 10 pre-nominees for Best Actor at the Daytime Emmys include the defending champion, Anthony Geary ("General Hospital"). He's already by far the most awarded soap opera actor with eight wins to date (next in line are Erika Slezak and Justin Deas with six apiece), but if he wins for the ninth time he'll achieve an even bigger record by tying Cloris Leachman as the most awarded actor in Emmy history, Daytime or Primetime. -Break- Daytime Emmy Awards pre-nominations: 'Y&R' leads with 23, 'Days' at 20 Geary might also be the sentimental favorite. After playing the iconic role of Luke Spencer on and off since 1978, the 68-year-old actor decided to leave the show last year, so the TV academy may decide to give him a farewell hug for his decades of work. His first Best Actor Emmy came in 1982. There was a long gap between that victory and his next, but »

Oscars 2016 telecast: Chris Rock & Lady Gaga excelled despite show with lots of hits and misses

29 February 2016 12:27 AM, PST

With the #OscarsSoWhite controversy besieging the academy this year for the second year in a row, they couldn't have asked for a better host than Chris Rock – or a worse host, depending on what he would say. Would he perfectly address the controversy? Would he make the academy look bad? Or would he be diplomatic? -Break- Well, Rock did make the academy look a little bad, but letting him do it on a national stage also made them look good, which is slightly worrisome: a tongue-lashing from Rock is not the same as making meaningful institutional changes (in the academy and the industry at large), so let's hope the work of improving representation doesn't end here.
