The small but rich sultanate evokes the images of mosques and palaces with majestic golden domes, where almost everyone is prosperous thanks to Brunei’s legendary wealth of oil and gas industry. While these assumptions are somewhat vindicated, travellers will also be charmed by its easy-going pace, down to earth people and well-preserved nature. Apart from the warmth and wealth of this country, Brunei houses many interesting spots such as the billion dollar Jerudong Park (an amusement park), Royal Regalia Museum, and Istana Nurul Iman. Another must-see is Kampong Ayer (Water Village), where the houses are handsomely built in stilts above the Brunei River in which the locals refer to it as ‘Venice of the East’.
