Where is the love for jpegs?

It seems to me that there is a real disconnect between the camera manufacturers and advanced users because for a long time the cameras have been and continue to be marketed with ever more jpeg related features including many that specifically are designed to simulate some aspect of film photography and development. These features are all clearly aimed at enthusiasts because newbies probably will never have heard of any of them and many of these features are really ingenious. Yet all we read on the forums is the only way to shoot almost any camera from the most humble 1" compact to the most sophisticated FF DSLR, is in RAW and to PP in Photoshop etc.

Are we all mistaken in our RAW obsession and should we be taking advantage of all these jpeg features, filters, film simulations, grain simulations, development simulations and so on and stop being so precious about RAW? Or are the manufacturers wasting time and buttons and should they just give us basic camera controls and forget all the jpeg bling?
