'Justice League' Is Happening, As of April 11

7 hours ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

After years of development, it looks like we will finally get that Justice League movie: The first in what should be a series of films is set to begin shooting on April 11, according to Entertainment Weekly. And EW got it straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak: Zack Snyder, who directed Man of Steel and the upcoming Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and will be directing this movie as well. So he gets two weeks to bask in the glow of B v. S's box office numbers (assuming they're good) before getting back to work.   "It's a long time coming," Snyder told EW. "But I do feel like it's a little bit of a creative hurdle. It seems like an easy thing to do at first glance, the idea that, 'Oh, we just get the rest of the superheroes in there.' But you have to [establish] a world where they can exist. »

'Deadpool' Tops $490M Worldwide; 'Risen', 'Witch' & 'Mermaid' Open Strong

21 February 2016 8:52 AM, PST | Box Office Mojo | See recent BoxOfficeMojo.com news »

Deadpool took #1 at the weekend box office once again in its second weekend of release, crossing $235 million domestically. But it wasn't a weekend all about the Merc with the Mouth as a pair of newcomers in Risen and The Witch had strong opening performances. Additionally, Focus' Race finished its debut sprint with a sixth place finish and Sony saw an impressive limited opening for Stephen Chow's Chinese box office behemoth The Mermaid. In first, Deadpool brought in an estimated $55 million in its second weekend, a 58.5% drop from last weekend, which is well within expectation as films that open over $100 million tend to drop, on average, 54.3%. Deadpool, as it turns out, had a similar drop to the previous R-rated opening weekend champion, The Matrix Reloaded, which dropped 59.8% in its second weekend back in 2003. The film's drop, however, is much better than last year's Valentine's and President's Day weekend champ, Fifty Shades of Grey, »

Vanessa Hudgens to Star in DC Comics Comedy Pilot ‘Powerless’ at NBC

3 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Vanessa Hudgens has been cast in NBC’s DC Comics comedy pilot “Powerless,” Variety has learned. The starring role is Hudgens’ first gig after “Grease Live” for which she received rave reviews.

Based on characters from the DC universe, “Powerless” is a workplace comedy set at one of the worst insurance companies in America — with the twist being that it also takes place in the universe of DC Comics. The show is about the reality of working life for a normal, powerless person in a world of super heroes and villains.

Hudgens will play Emily Locke, an insurance claims adjuster who loves her job because she gets to help people. The character likes to fly under the radar and just get her work done, and she finds herself increasingly exasperated by the disruptive antics of the various Super Heroes that proliferate in her city.

The role marks Hudgens’ first regular role on a TV series. »

Oscars: 5 Possible Upsets That Could Rock Hollywood’s Big Night

7 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

The Oscars are six days away if you can believe it. Will best picture go to “The Big Short,” “The Revenant” or “Spotlight?” That’s the question on everyone’s minds. Underneath it all, there are a few categories that seem locked up, but could give way to a shocker. Here are five potential upsets to keep an eye on next weekend. Our final Oscar predictions will land tomorrow, just as voting draws to a close.

Bryan Cranston for Best Actor

This one would admittedly be a bolt from the blue, but “Trumbo” is right in the Academy wheelhouse, picked up three Screen Actors Guild nominations including an ensemble bid (i.e., actors — who make up the largest Academy branch — love it) and Cranston is a beloved worker. The road certainly seems to be paved for Leonardo DiCaprio after precursor dominance and SAG and BAFTA wins, but there are plenty »

Trump to Skip Megyn Kelly Town Hall Featuring All Other Gop Candidates

This will do nothing to cool the so-called feud between Donald Trump and Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly. On Monday, the network announced that Kelly will be hosting a two-hour “voter summit” on Wednesday with the catchy title, “The Kelly File: Face to Face with Candidates.” Except for one little detail: It will be missing the party’s frontrunner, and winner of this weekend’s South Carolina primaries… The Donald himself. Interestingly the Fox New press release is somewhat coy about Trump’s diss, only saying,”Four of the Five Remaining Candidates Confirmed to Participate in the Two-Hour Primetime Event. »

‘Superstore’ Showrunner on Why Jonah and Amy Are No Ross and Rachel

Hailing from “The Office,” “Superstore” showrunner Justin Spitzer knows a thing or two about a classic will they-won’t they plot line, but he swears Jonah and Amy are no Jim and Pam — or Ross and Rachel for that matter. Spitzer told TheWrap that those examples — his — never really had a true “Won’t They” option, referring to them as more like a when-will-they device. Whereas on “Superstore,” there’s a really good chance that Jonah (Ben Feldman) and Amy (America Ferrara) will never get together — Spitzer swears he hasn’t decided yet. Many an Oscar pool has been won or lost in the three shorts categories, which have historically been among the toughest races to predict. But in recent years, the Oscars’ short films categories have changed, first with Magnolia and ShortsHD’s annual theatrical distribution of all the nominated shorts, which made it possible for completists to actually see what they’re picking. Is Indiana Jones immortal?

58 minutes ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

In case you haven't come across it yet, an intriguing fan theory concerning Indiana Jones has been circulating today that posits that the reason the hero was able to survive that notorious "Nuke the Fridge" scene in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is because he drank from the Holy Grail in The Last Crusade -- thereby granting him eternal life. So is Indiana Jones really immortal? After checking out my conversation with HitFix's Roth Cornet about the theory in the video above and below, you can read my dissection of it further down the page. At face value, the reason offered for Indiana Jones' unlikely survival sounds like a plausible (though obviously unintentional on the part of the filmmakers) theory...until, that is, you start really thinking about it. For one thing, a quick Google search reveals a number of rebuttals to the idea, which has previously been postulated online »
