Vanessa Hudgens to Star in DC Comics Comedy Pilot ‘Powerless’ at NBC

3 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Vanessa Hudgens has been cast in NBC’s DC Comics comedy pilot “Powerless,” Variety has learned. The starring role is Hudgens’ first gig after “Grease Live” for which she received rave reviews.

Based on characters from the DC universe, “Powerless” is a workplace comedy set at one of the worst insurance companies in America — with the twist being that it also takes place in the universe of DC Comics. The show is about the reality of working life for a normal, powerless person in a world of super heroes and villains.

Hudgens will play Emily Locke, an insurance claims adjuster who loves her job because she gets to help people. The character likes to fly under the radar and just get her work done, and she finds herself increasingly exasperated by the disruptive antics of the various Super Heroes that proliferate in her city.

The role marks Hudgens’ first regular role on a TV series. »

‘11.22.63’ Recap: Jake and Frank Dunning Face Off in ‘The Kill Floor’

Jake Epping is done with the past.

After having spent the first episode fighting to change time and creating disastrous consequences, the English teacher-turned-time traveler (played by James Franco) called it quits and decided to head home — but a quick detour to Holden, Ky., to prevent his present-day friend Harry Dunning from losing his mother and siblings to a murderous sledgehammer-wielding father seemed like a decent one to make.

Jake finds that the young Harry of the ’60s is a far cry from the slow-speaking janitor he knows in modern times. The young version of Harry is a quiet, but resourceful kid — someone who has the smarts to stash an extra pair of pants with a store owner for when the bullies take his.

Jake’s first stop is finding a place to stay, while he waits for the night Harry’s dad is going to commit his crime: Halloween. »
