Enthusiast DSLR camera roundup (2014)

Comment from a cheapskate here. Since all these are great cameras I rate the A77ii the best for being the most camera for the least cost and the 7Dii being the worst for it's high price.

We are still waiting for review, after 10 months. This is redigulous.

I own the D7100 and can attest to the solid build and great image quality. I have been very satisfied with the purchase.

I can't compare it with the other cameras here, as I don't own them. I feel certain they are all great cameras, as the most basic of cameras these days are pretty amazing. The endless spec comparing does get a bit tiring, but I suppose that's the nature of reviews and forums. Just here to say the D7100 is a great camera, and I am enjoying it.

The best? Well, that's up to you. Vote with your wallet.

K-3 high ISO performance is identical to the D7100's according to DXOMark. DPR, please correct your review.

Note too that the K-3 sensor doesn't suffer banding like the D7100's.

I don't understand why you couldn't find some highlights for the K-3 instead of the cheap shot D7100 comparison. How about one of these, which the D7100 can't match?

Thank you dp review for the roundup and all your efforts to keep us informed about the choices in gear. it is just interesting that the lack of focus peaking in video is marked as a flaw for the k3 while the total lack of it in other cameras are never even mentioned let alone highlighted as a flaw. And jpeg color response is subject to user preferences and there are many that prefer the richness or saturated colors of pentax, while the reviewer is perfectly right is saying he doesnt like the colors of the k3 jpegs, marking it as a flaw is not a credible move.

Yes I use Pentax and am not saying that it is the best camera system in the world, but for what its worth, Pentax does offer quite a lot of value to enthusiasts who do portraits, landscapes, street photography etc. Sure their tracking af is no where near what Nikon has at the moment, but action is not all that enthusiasts shoot.

A sensible review - thank you chaps. As far as image stabilisation goes, yes, it assists, but coming from a manual film camera background it is shooting technique that gets sharp shots for me. Agreed, with a long telephoto it helps noticeably but with small light primes it really shouldn't be necessary if you know what you're doing.

The failure to mention image stabilization even once in a roundup like this is baffling to me. It's a major feature that has an immediate positive impact on anyone's handheld photography, far more so than any differences in resolution or even high-iso sensitivity in this class of camera. With two of the bodies included here, you get it thrown in "for free," and it works with every single lens (even 3rd-party or old ones) for those systems. Sure, some systems like Canon offer image stabilization in a wide cross-section of lenses including shorter primes. Nikon however does not, with practically no primes under 85mm at all available with stabilization. But even with systems which, like Canon's, lack in-body stabilization but offer many stabilized lenses, users have the disadvantage of re-paying the admittedly minor size, weight, and price penalty that IS brings with it on every single IS lens purchase they ever make. Does the value proposition simply not matter to DPR? What gives?
