‘Batman v Superman’ Supersized Runtime Revealed

7 hours ago | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Long run times can be Kryptonite to moviegoers, but chances are that won’t be a problem with “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” According to the AMC Theaters website, the DC Comics movie will clock in at two hours and 31 minutes, or 151 minutes. That is slightly longer than “Man of Steel,” which came in at 143 minutes, but just shorter than the 2006 box office disappointment “Superman Returns,” which was 153 minutes. However, “Dark Knight Rises” remains one of the longest superhero movies to date, with its 164 minute run time. See video: 'Batman v Superman' Final Trailer Promises Epic Feud for »

'Deadpool' Tops $490M Worldwide; 'Risen', 'Witch' & 'Mermaid' Open Strong

21 February 2016 8:52 AM, PST | Box Office Mojo | See recent BoxOfficeMojo.com news »

Deadpool took #1 at the weekend box office once again in its second weekend of release, crossing $235 million domestically. But it wasn't a weekend all about the Merc with the Mouth as a pair of newcomers in Risen and The Witch had strong opening performances. Additionally, Focus' Race finished its debut sprint with a sixth place finish and Sony saw an impressive limited opening for Stephen Chow's Chinese box office behemoth The Mermaid. In first, Deadpool brought in an estimated $55 million in its second weekend, a 58.5% drop from last weekend, which is well within expectation as films that open over $100 million tend to drop, on average, 54.3%. Deadpool, as it turns out, had a similar drop to the previous R-rated opening weekend champion, The Matrix Reloaded, which dropped 59.8% in its second weekend back in 2003. The film's drop, however, is much better than last year's Valentine's and President's Day weekend champ, Fifty Shades of Grey, »

Apparently Will Smith Was Not A Nice Human Being While Making Ali

35 minutes ago | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Over the course of his career, Will Smith is one of those actors who has carefully cultivated a very friendly, amiable public persona. He doesn.t swear in his music, he doesn.t stir up controversy in his personal life, and even when discussing hot button issues like race in Hollywood, he.s delicate, measured, and political. Basically, he comes across as a nice, solid dude, though allegedly, according to one costar, he was a huge dick on the set of the Muhammad Ali biopic Ali. Actor and comedian Paul Rodriguez played Dr. Ferdie Pacheco, Muhammad Ali.s corner man, in Michael Mann.s 2001 Ali. He and Will Smith had worked together before on Made in America and had a swell experience, but this time things did not go so well. In an interview with San Diego radio station Rock 105.3, Rodriguez calls Smith an "A-hole" and even claims that the »

Grimsby review – Sacha Baron Cohen's gags fall flat in cod-Bond caper

47 minutes ago | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

The Ali G and Borat creator shows little of his anarchic brilliance in this tame comedy, which is just kept from flatlining by moments of high-impact grossout

Sacha Baron Cohen brings his B-game – or maybe even his C-game – to this moderate new comedy that basically defeated my attempts to like it.

The film features a lairy football fan from Grimsby with Gallagher-esque hair and attitude, called Nobby (Baron Cohen); he discovers that his brother Sebastian (Mark Strong, gamely playing it straight) long-lost in the foster care system, is now a sleek assassin for MI6. Of course the hapless Nobby, along with an entire barmy army of mates, is the only one who can help Strong out – after getting him into a terrible jam – and foil a sinister eugenicist plot to rid an overpopulated world of the working classes.

Why More Lgbt-Rights Stories Need to Be Brought to the Screen (Guest Column)

1 hour ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

In the 1950s, a stunningly-attractive upper middle-class married woman living in the suburbs of a large American city on the East Coast decided one day that she had to stop hiding the fact that she was a lesbian. Summoning up a degree of courage that seems almost unimaginable today, she effectively “came out” to her husband at a time when there was no such thing as “coming out” since almost all gay people lived in the closet and being gay was a crime in most states.

She told her husband that he “deserved better” — he deserved to be truly loved in the way a husband should be loved by his wife. This woman got a divorce, packed up her belongings, and moved to New York City like so many others (including myself three decades later) “in order to be gay.”

While this may sound like a description of the plot »

Sacha Baron Cohen Drinks, Takes Aim and Cracks Oscar Diversity Jokes at ‘Brothers Grimsby’ Premiere

1 hour ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Jaws dropped Monday evening, as writer and star Sacha Baron Cohen made his charmingly uncouth and scantily clad entrance into Leicester Square for the world bow of “The Brothers Grimsby.”

As simpleton spy Nobby, Baron Cohen stepped out of his battered white van onto the red carpet, takeaway dinner still in hand. Careful not to spill his treasured feast, he eyed up the harem of swimsuit clad beauties who stood awaiting his arrival.

Straight to business, Nobby was soon working the carpet in his underpants and skin-tight top, complete with this season’s must-have accessory, a contrasting gun holster. A spy ready to save the world: a beer in one hand, a gun in the other.

With Nobby’s beer-hand bandaged, he was duly asked the cause of his affliction. “Some violent person attacked me,” he exclaimed, quickly elaborating incredulously, “What happened was, I punched him in the face, and then he attacked me! »

Rooney Mara has opened up about the whitewashing debate that ignited when she was cast as Tiger Lily in 2015 film “Pan,” leading to thousands protesting the fact that a white actress was cast in the famous part.

In an interview with the Telegraph, Mara said she hated being at the center of the controversy and being on “that side” of the conversation.

“[It was a] tricky thing to deal with,” Mara said. “There were two different periods; right after I was initially cast, and the reaction to that, and then the reaction again when the film came out.

“I really hate, hate, hate that I am on that side of the whitewashing conversation,” she went on. “I really do. I don’t ever want to be on that side of it again. I can understand why people were upset and frustrated.”
