Readers' Showcase: Sheila Murphy

Interesting to see that the photo that blows most people away was taken with the Mamiya 7, which in its overwhelming simplicity built around a huge viewfinder sure is one of the best camera's – with some of the very best lenses – I have ever worked with.

Engaging images, but I think number 9 and 10 should not be in this showcase imho. Maybe I am missing something, but those two images just don't attract me. Number 11 is a little overexposed as detail is lost. But in general not bad at all.

These are varied and visually engaging images. Sheila has a creative and open mind. She is an artist, not a gearhead. Bravo!

Wonderful images. Some of the more sparse scenes hold your attention much longer than busier compositions.

#2 is excellent. Was it taken with a single exposure?

My kind of photographs. I much prefer this kind of work to so much of the mirrored water, craggy hillside, super-saturated color landscape kinds of stuff that it seems are so common on sites like this. Photo #2 is a particular standout for me... but then again, I'm a sucker for finely detailed B&W, modern architecture and diagonal lines.

It's funny, but it seems to me that the photographers who I tend to admire the most are much more likely to be using compact and mirror-less cameras much more than what seems to be the average (where DSLRs are easily the most popular). There's certainly nothing particularly distinctive about the photographs that these cameras make but the way that they're designed seems to attract a certain kind of photographer...

Wow.. nice to see someone who obviously has an eye for lines, geometry, space and composition :) Also effectively brings things together to work as part of a series.
9 & 10 are a little too bland and empty for my tastes but the others are fantastic.

DPReview, please ignore the naysayers.

In the end the equipment is to serve the end of photography, not vice versa, and I for one welcome seeing more emphasis on photography on the site.

Due to the childish and unconstructive techno-nerd brand arguments I spend less and less time here and more on actual photography sites and it would be good to have more reason to come back more often. It is disturbing how some here seem allergic to actual photographs that are not of a test chart.

This site is regrettably becoming deluged with infomercials, of which this certainly looks like one. Arhmatic's question is a good one, but I'd really rather do without Readers' Showcases entirely and stick to news.

Sheila Murphy's photos are OK, even more than OK for the minimalist ones. But there are so many OK photos in the air these days that a respite would be most welcome.

These are all great, but I particularly like the minimalistic ones such as 1, 8 and 11. I'd be delighted to had seen and captured these myself.

Laconic composition and balance are that making these pictures interesting and extraordinary.

Honestly, I didn't find it that good at all. I think one might be jaded by the sheer amount of photography one sees on a daily basis.

Nice stuff, much better than the usual over Photo-Shopped fare DPR serves up! Of course these have also been PS'd, but only in the way of optimizing an already great shot, rather than taking a bleh photo and relying on PS to make something out of it. IMHO.

Nice set. These photo's are nut just pretty, they are artful. They have a deeper layer.

Simple but interesting subjects, with tones and colours that juxtaposed well, I really like the composition and perspectives in Hearst Tower, New York City!
They are a great set of images, Bravo!

For my tastes these are by far the best of the recent reader showcases... Excellent work!

The gear is real immaterial, she is a person with a great eye and brain.

Truly stellar photos. I wish the the gear section was left out. The gear doesn't matter. Most any DSLR could have taken these. As they say, it's what's behind the camera that counts and Sheila's got it!

Greats shots. I think images 1, 8 & 11 work really well as an edit and would love to see this theme developed.
