  • Natalie Cole‘s family is not happy with the tribute she received during the Grammys’ In Memoriam segment on Monday night.

Cole’s son Robert Adam Yancy and her sisters, Timolin and Casey, don’t think what the Recording Academy did went far enough, according to TheWrap.

“Here is a woman who has been in the business for four decades, had 21 Grammy nominations and won nine Grammys,” Yancy told Entertainment Tonight. “She deserves more than (to be a part of) a minute-and-a-half tribute. It was shameless the way they minimized her legacy. We will find solace in her legacy as well as her endless fans around the world.”

And then there’s this statement from Timolin and Casey:

“Sadly a forgettable tribute to Natalie Cole. Words cannot express the outrage and utter disappointment at the disrespectful tribute, or lack thereof, to a legendary artist such as our sister.”

As we reported, Cole died of heart failure in late December, 2015. She was the daughter of legendary singer Nat King Cole and former Duke Ellington Orchestra singer Maria Hawkins Ellington.

    1. Those awards shows don’t care one ounce about black people. The sooner black realize it, the better off black people will be. Stop asking white folks to do for us what we can do for ourselves.

I’ve made $76,000 so far this year working online and I’m a full time student. Im using an online business opportunity I heard about and I’ve made such great money. It’s really user friendly and I’m just so happy that I found out about it.,,,

    3. Same thing as with B.B. King. He passed away and it virtually went unnoticed. He was finally mentioned and that was the end of it. He bought alot of it on himself as he kinda separated himself from his race once he became famous. Also notice how they frequently mention Bowies widow. All about his son. This world is still about color.

    4. She was one of a few to be recognized. The show wasn’t centered around one person. Yes Natalie was amazing but the Grammys was not not the showcase.

    5. How long in advance are the tributes planned? Was there space and time enough to add a tribute that she deserves? Is there a plan in the works for future tributes as she passed just a month and a half ago?

      • The timeline doesn’t matter. Yes Natatie passed in December but David Bowie died just two weeks or three weeks ago but they were miraculously able to not only do a tribute but a 10-minute one to be exact performed by Lady Gaga. The grammy’s always have and will do tributes to who they want to do them for. Point Blank Period.

        • Michelle, you are right. I was about to give the Grammy’s a pass until I read yours and Linda’s comments. It was indeed…… disrespectful.

    6. i’m sorry, but as much as i feel sorry and disgust for the lack of tribute, i too am hugely mad because my idol, Donna Summer, who’s music defined an entire decade, also received NO tribute from the Grammy’s, and you dont see us publicly complaining do ya?!?!?! give both Natalie Cole AND Donna Summer the recognition THEY DESERVE!!!!!!!!!!!!

    7. The Grammy’s pay homage to who that want to.
So sad that they chose to disrespect Ms. Cole and her family.

I stopped watching the Grammy’s years ago–it seems like the people who should be getting the awards don’t and the ones who do get them truly DO NOT DESERVE them!!!!!!!!

Someone must have their head up their ass on the Grammy’s music listening committee!!!!!!
