Editors’ Notes

The once (and perhaps future) king of gospel R&B stomp delivers his strongest showing in a decade with his 11th record, Hello Fear. Despite the title track’s super-cheesy self-help vibe—it’s a break-up song delivered to an emotion, get it?—it nonetheless is a pretty great track. That's due to Franklin’s sophisticated, stripped-down arrangement and a stellar mini-chorus of backup singers (featuring, among others, Nikki Ross, Anaysha Figueroa, Charmaine Swimpson, Candy West, and Peaches West) who assist on the whole album. Rance Allen, Marvin Sapp, and Mali Music guest on various other jams, but this is Franklin’s show. And he always innovates, pushing gospel into new territories. That sweet go-go beat on “Before I Die” is something you’ve never heard before, while “The Moment #1” brings it all back home with a retro ‘70s mass-choir sound, recalling the finest moments of Aretha and The Winans.

Customer Reviews

Wonderful!!!

I've been waiting for this album to be released, and it was worth the wait. Kirk you have done it again! It blessed my soul to hear these songs.

Fantastic!!!

Absolutely amazing!! Love every song. The message is so relevant for today and what people are going through. Fear really has gripped and affected many of us. Nice to have some music to speak to the issue and give us hope and encouragement. Other listeners- please let it minister to you and don't listen to all of these "so called music critics" who do nothing but get on various posts actually acting like they know something. Many gospel sites have these same kind of people that speak more about their own personal preferences than actual fact. If you don't like it, then you could easily go somewhere else and not hinder or influence the many people that Kirk's music actually helps and ministers to.

Hello Fear

Some of his best work. Fantastic.
