GO Fourth

Explore your parks

The South Dakota State Parks is partnering with the South Dakota Department of Health to put on the Go Fourth program.

What it is

Go Fourth aims at getting fourth graders and their families outside and active this summer with the overall aim of improving the health of South Dakota youth and families.

The project entails the distribution of 11,500 one-day state park entrance licenses to every fourth-grader in the state. The license extends to the family of the student, as the pass is valid for everyone in the vehicle entering the park.

The goal of the project is to encourage kids and families to create healthy habits, try new activities, and enjoy nature. Although the license can be used any day, participants will be encouraged to utilize them to attend in-park events, such as Becoming an Outdoor Family, and other educational and informative programs.

How it works

Daily Park Entrance

In May, every fourth grader in South Dakota will receive a free daily park entrance license. The pass will get one vehicle into a state park or recreation area for one day. The student must be in the vehicle.

The entrance licenses expire December 31, 2015.

BONUS

In addition to entrance into the park, the student will also receive one hour use of a canoe, kayak, paddleboat or paddleboard (where available).

Discount

At the end of the park visit, the family can turn their daily entrance license in for a $6 discount on an annual park entrance license ($30).

Park Locations

The permit can be used at any state park or recreation area. Find a park near you.
