BECOME A VOLUNTEER INSTRUCTOR
Thank you for your interest in becoming an instructor for our HuntSAFE or Bowhunter Education programs. These courses are vital to both the present and future of our hunting hertiage and are only possible through the help of volunteers like you.
HuntSAFE
We need over 300 volunteers to carry out this program that teaches firearms safety, conservation and responsibility to thousands of students across the state.
If you would like to become a member of this elite team contact a Conservation Officer in your county or area to get an application.
Requirements to become a HuntSAFE volunteer include:
- Must be a minimum age of 18
- Completion of a state approved safety course
- Attending and/or participating in one class and a willingness to undergo a basic background check
- Local Conservation Officers and their Supervisors have the ultimate responsibility for approving new instructors
Bowhunter Education
South Dakota is one of 12 states that require mandatory bow hunter education. To become an instructor, contact the HuntSAFE office in Pierre for an application.
Your name and contact information will be forwarded to a Master Instructor in your area for follow-up training.
Requirements to become an instructor include:
- Must be a minimum age of 18
- Participation in two bowhunter education classes
- Attendance at an instructor training
- Willingness to undergo a basic background check
