G Master - Too Expensive? Too Big?

Hi,

Before Fanboys start shouting at me, let me say, I am big fan and serious on Sony. But just want to understand where Sony is going with desigm and pricing on lenses. Here is my round up on my thought process so far,

1. Sony launched Amazing (with capital A) mirrorless bodies recently allowing Canon lenses to work on them flawlessly - capturing majority of Canon consumers in process. They ditches their Canon bodies but not the lenses.

2. Fact is, Sony didn't have great lenses lineup at the time, but had confidence on their bodies, ability on marketing and targetting Canon users. Where they suceeded to win the hearts of some customers.

3. Recently allowing Zeiss batis to launch ahead of G Master, they did a favour i think. But many batis owners ( especially 85mm owners) might have felt now like the people holding their A7R on the launch of A7R II. But this happens in the world of innovation.

4. Sony launched ground breaking technology, but kept the prices of these bodies well below competitors' products, which allowed posibility of transition.

5. But they neither had lenses for professional use with E mounts, nor adapters, that can be used reliably during professional work.

So people with A7R II, A7S II started asking for professional lenses. So was the dawn of G Master.

Now some problems I see with these G Masters -

1. Too experience - Making then too expensive shows me that Sony is confident and does not need to competitively price them anymore. (People stranded with amazing bodies with average quality lenses should be blamed for that)

2. Too big - People are saying these lenses are not as big as FF lenses from Canon/Nikon equipment. But they are not Small either by any means. Professional or not, thats a buzz kill, who chose Mirrorless for its size and still has sensible mind to stick with that decision or argument of 'size'.

3. Tomorrow's Lenses argument- Have anyone noticed how Canon Lenses DXOMark ranking got a bump due to their 5DS series bodies? Sensor is less ranked that A7 series. That tells me, that Canon lenses are already ok for 50+ MP, but Sony or even canon mount zeiss might not be there? Unless i am missing something, people are still okay with their Sigma Art even for professional work. With new 35mm from Canon, all they made sure is develop a technology that was giving them less scores in labs like DXOMark. Everything else they already have in thier arsenal.

Now what could happen,

1. Canon/Nikon might launch better mirrorless, compact quality lenses for professional work. (Let's face it - Not going to happen this any time soon. Canon is a lazy giant, Nikon is dependent teenager)

2. Professionals with Canon /Nikon lenses don't bother to buy Sony lenses just yet.

OR

Sony lenses are hugh success!!

Only time will tell.

But one thing is for certain, people will wait and watch the performance of these lenses before making the purchase.

But I do have one question, What's Sony Thinking?

Thanks,

Dig.
