Fujifilm X-Pro2 release moved to early March

Last month, Fujifilm unveiled the X-Pro2 mirrorless camera with a February 18 release date. Per a statement (in Japanese) issued on Friday, the camera maker has postponed the release until early March due to an unspecified production delay and higher than anticipated global orders. The postponement will 'ensure a sufficient supply amount' is available, according to Fujifilm. A specific release date will be revealed at a later time. This news follows last week's Nikon D500 delay announcement, with Nikon also citing high demand as the reason.

They both get sensors from Sony and Sony is struggling to keep up with sensor demand. My guess is they are not getting enough sensors quick enough

It's possible. The report mentions an "unspecified production delay". It also appears that Fuji underestimated the demand for this camera and need more time to build units to fill pre-orders.

This is probably because of the Olympus PEN-F which is out late February. Similar type of street shooters camera.

Olympus PEN-F is better for street/walk around shooters:

- 5-Axis Image Stabilization
- 73 MFT lenses, or
- 115 lenses including FT lens
- lot of dirrect controls, buttons, dials...

Fuji pro2 has lots of external dials. Fuji have any lens you need for street. Only Eric Kim uses flash for street. Not sure what point you are trying to make here.

I was looking into XT1 which is weather Resistant but FUJI only has one weather sealed OIS lens. So I bought OMD with 5-Axis IBIS as there are 10 weather sealed MFT lenses or 24 including FT weather sealed if you want to.

Lets put weather sealing aside, users can have a ISed system camera by using all MFT/FT lens which is the case of this PEN-F.

BTW, PEN-F is capable for Dual IS just like new Pana GX8. GX8 is weather sealed with larger EVF. In other words, if users want weather sealed + much better Video + 4K + larger EVF + IBIS, go for GX8 even its IBIS is not as good as Olympus.

Back to your "lots of external dials", You need to learn how to count first. I know few people can not count buttons, dials.

I guess fuji made a deal with sony to announce the new sensor first. But since sony developed the whole thing (again) they end up being the ones that put it in the customers hands first.

Fujifilm, you'd better take your time. It's far, far better to delay, a few months even, and get it right than rush to release a potentially problematic product.

EthanP99, 'as good as the a6300' in what ways? Does the a6300 have hybrid viewfinder, faster shutter/flash-sync, more direct dials/controls, etc.? Sure, the a6300 is cheaper and can do certain things better than the xpro2 (like video) but it's not outright better.

Yea, it is better. That hybrid viewfinder is ridiculous considering high end EVF now. Flash sync? How about no HSS on Fuji?

A6300 doesn't need hybrid viewfinder as it does 8fps without viewfinder lag, has much larger evf magnification and auto focus speed.

I can't agree more.
A6300 release this week already made xpro2 look pathetic.
Let's be realistic, not 2 years but perhaps 1 year with firmware update, xpro2 will catch up a6300. In the mean time, Sony will release 4 more successors.

The A6300 is not made for pro use. Cheaper cameras always have more features because amateurs need them. The A6300 is not built to withstand daily use, The Fuji is, thus the price difference. A better comparison would be the XE-2. That is like saying that a Chevy with a million bells and whistles is better than a BMW with basic equipment. I also do mechanical work and *there is no comparison*, it most certainly is not! Fuji also has a much better selection of lenses.

I hope so but don't think so, at least not in the near future. They have to come up with a FF lens line and that is a big decision. I am sure that a FF sensor BSI with IBIS in the Xpro2 would be awesome but.....

1. You don't change the design specs if you're getting "higher than expected orders" for the current design.
2. You can't suddenly change the sensor size with only a month increase in release date and no support for a new mount.
...so no. No FF. At least not for the xpro2.

@LFPCPH - No, last minutie it is changing to MEDIUM FORMAT and 100MP similar to the new Phase One IQ3 - and they are shrinking the size to be smaller than the Olympus Pen cameras.

No. It's not really the point of the X cams anyway. It's unnecessary, expensive, will produce bigger cameras, & need massive investment in new lenses.

APSC *is* full frame to a lot of professionals, especially in my market, & there are even advantages to having a smaller sensor than the perceived 'Standard' 35mm format. Here are a couple that matter to me:
1/ Better AF coverage
2/ Smaller/Lighter systems and lenses
3/ Larger Depth of field on fast primes (More of subject in focus in low light with maximum aperture)
4/ Lower Cost (Nikon D500 to D750 notwithstanding!)

There is a huge professional market of people who just want cameras that perform, with good IQ, in a light(er) weight package, & at a reasonable price. Full frame cameras can produce excellent results in the IQ department, but in some ways can't compete in some other areas, & that's important for the kind of photography I do.

I sincerely hope Fuji don't dump everything they've achieved just to accommodate a larger sensor

Nevertheless - Fuji has a history of producing cameraes in different categories, so be not surprised if they come up with a new system for a larger sensor. Unlike Olympus who stayed with their OM-System for 30 years.

@LFPCPH: that's what the winky is for. Two (or three) little characters that serves to convey the intended meaning instead of the literal one ;)

As for your second point: Fuji execs have stated that there are no plans to go to FF in the forseeable future, however they were going to revisit the issue when they felt the APSC lens lineup was complete (this was about 2yrs ago). They've already indicated that their next step is a line of smaller/budget(?) primes to complement their fast primes. Then there's the issue of the rumoured medium format fuji which might also complicate things...ie which one will get R&D priority etc...

Oh... the eternal Fujifilm problem. 2-4 month delay seems to be standard here.

I don't see Fujifilm making any changes to the hardware at this point. There might be tweaks to the software, which can be done via firmware, but it's fair to assume that the hardware is probably the same... I am sure a good number of cameras have already been manufactured, why not ship those?

No matter how good a camera the a6300 might be, it remains hobbled by the same at-best-average cropped sensor E-lenses as before. It's certainly not in the same class as the yet-to-be-seen D500, and the native lenses are so much better anyway.

Yes, Nikon have a stunning array of DX specific lenses that will really make the D500 shine. Most D500 users will never have to touch silly 'huge, heavy and expensive' full frame lenses because of this extensive catalogue in DX glass ;)
